Festools on site - The system is key

I keep shims in a systainer, now they don't end up all over the floor, and stack nicely with my other systainers and move easily from room to room.

The bedslide is great btw, if you're stuck in a truck...

I have been kicking around an idea on using a two wheel dolly as some sort of tool cart. Thinking an air compressor would be on the bottom the boxes for the tools I need for that particular job. But I want them to stay attached to the cart and possibly swing to the side to access each box with ease. But I would like to have swivel wheels on the cart in front so you can move it easily.
Kind of like the sys roll cart but I don't want to take the systainers off and scatter them on the floor. Then at the end of job or day just roll it out all together and put it in the van. Either totally custom make a cart or hang some boxes on an exiting cart. Any way I hope to soon try to put something together. Will post pics when I do.

Kevin, yeah 4" hard pipe for the jointer, new router table, and table saw. When I need to use the thickness planer, I run a flex line over and connect in a blast gate by the tablesaw. The problem with Festool is you start to expect all your tools to have the same dc ability! I had a Delta 1-1/2 horse dc before the existing 1 horse General. The General is small, quieter, and sucks less juice, but it also doesn't have the balls that the Delta did. I made q.sawn white oak a/c vents this morning using the tablesaw, planer, jointer, and router table which the dc collected about 80%. I keep modifying the dc system trying to get to Festool standards, bloody Germans! Wait a minute I'm German, never mind!

This sounds interesting, can't wait to see some pics. Up until now I've used a sturdy two wheeled foldable cart and added a bigger platform that holds two systainers instead of just one, doubling the potential load quantity. Two extra swiveling wheels would be really nice though.

@ Kevin: I'll try to take and post some pics but can't promise when exactly. Working towards a rather fixed deadline for a shop so not much time to play. Also, I'm hoping to upgrade my small van to a larger MB Sprinter, that would mean I can finally finish what I have in mind and take it to the 2.0 level. But in any case, I'll try to take some pics or at least make a quick list.

Gotta run now. ;) Cheers, Bob.

I completely agree with the system
The way I do it is a bit different to all of you but it works for me.... Let me explain
I fit kitchens all the time, so my system is based on tools to hand and rubbish collection rather than using a skip
I use a high sided transit truck similar to the picture attached for a skip
I have a fully racked out Ifor Williams trailer just like the one in the picture
(Don't have any pictures at the moment)
All my Festool equipment is then rolled out for each job....... The joy of stacked systainers
It looks very professional and customers are amazed that there houses are always clean and tidy, with no rubbish or tools lying around

For me a good system is one that makes me productive and efficient and maintains or improves quality
Having too many tools causes inefficiency, the key is having the right amount of the right tools and it is very easy to have a lot of duplicates when 1 would do
strip it back and organise so it becomes easy to make sure you have all the tools out you need without trips back and too to the van
group items for common tasks into systainers (small hand tools can be worth duplicating in this case)
It can be better to have smaller systainers so you can mix them up a bit rather than carrying unnecessary tools in a larger one

I have repacked and re organized my work tools around a million times over the years, well seems like a million!

Anyway Ifit is on the money with grouping tools, using smaller systainers and yep even duplicating small hand tools, after much trial and errror this is where i have arrived as well.I actually have up to 4 of some items either in the van or in the shed just so i am not going around unpacking to get one item that may be small but neccessary at a particular time.

Although i disagree with having too many tools can cause a problem because as everyone knows he who dies with the most tools wins and i am determined to be on that leader board!!!!!!

I like that cart idea....Im going to have to steel it  [big grin] I also use the Dewalt stack able  screw bin organizers as I was using plastic 1 gal paint cans previously and they took up a lot of room.

I have found the systainers are great for some applications but not the end all. Like others I like the Dewalt TSTAK system as they hold some larger tools and stackable like Festool. Then Husky box for electrical/specialty is also nice. Im slowly getting away from buckets and bins  [cool]
