Festools SYS-AZ Dimension Diagram question

Festool's SYS-AZ drawer instructions has a nice diagram listing dimensions. Most are nice and obvious, but the one that says "max. 1000mm" is NOT: Is that a maximum interior measurement, or exterior (i.e. the maximum 1000mm includes the thickness of the top and bottom panels)???

It's killing that the answer is not obvious...

I read it as 1000mm length for the side panels. That said when I made my cases I went with 48 inches to simplify the plywood cuts.

[member=23087]bnaboatbuilder[/member] is spot on; it's an arbitrary number to stop them being built too high and toppling over on people or something similar. Mine are somewhat taller than 1000mm but are attached to the wall to prevent such occurrences...

Thanks guys, great advice. I guess I was thinking if they're exactly to Festool's spec, you could use the various combinations of systainers suggested by the 2017 catalogue chart and not end up with empty space above the last one. However, GarryMartin's idea of using that space to put a binder of all shop manuals is brilliant, and solves the problem. Thanks!

When I built mine I used side panels @992mm to utilise LR32 spacing. Sides were captive which gave a finished height of 1028mm. This allowed for virtually any configuration of assorted sizes without any wasted space at all.

I then decided I wanted a chaos wall so built another set on top sharing the central horizontal panel resulting in a total finished height of 2038mm
