Festoolusa in Canada?

I just noted that on the festoolcanada site, when you search for a retailer, you will find Hafele and Ultimate tools listed. So far so good. BUT why the heck do they list hafeles website that only has poor information and Dan's website is not listed at all! I don't like bashing anyone, as a business owner I know first hand how damaging that can be. BUT come on Festool, you make world class tools, have a world class warranty but can't get your public relations right? You guys can't forget that 90% of consumers first do research on the web before buying these days. So if you fail in that, you lost sales--a lot of sales!
I hope it will be sorted out soon.

Hello Andreas

I am sure it was just an oversight and hopefully it will be resolved soon!

That took all of 4 minutes.

I just got an e-mail notification that my website has been added!! When I first became a dealer I did not have a website so it was never in my dealer profile.

Thanks for bringing it up Andreas

Cheers

Well, you can always use a proxy server in the USA to access festoolusa.

Anyway, I'm from Holland and I can access any Festool site I want without problems. USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Bolivia, whatever.

But I had this very same problem a while ago with Google. I always used google.com because it was in English and on the net I prefer to use English instead of my own language, Dutch. But suddenly Google decided to use a new script that checked my IP and then send me to Google.nl, the Dutch site. There was no malign intention from Google there, just a service to direct people to a website in their own language. Many international websites use these scripts.

If you download and install Google Toolbar (highlighted in pink), then go to Options, you can choose the International Google site that is used for searches (highlighted in yellow).

Although I normally use www.google.com for my searches (rather than www.google.co.uk), for the example shown here, I set it to use www.google.nl, and typed a search word into the Google Toolbar. Right enough, I was taken to www.google.nl and got lots of results in Dutch.

Thanks for trying to help Forrest, I didn't mention it in my post, but I solved the problem myself already long ago. There's this link 'Language tools' on Google where you can set the desired language, without having to install the google bar. I hate extra toolbars.

I meant to give an example of how websites use this IP checking to help their visitors, and not necessarily mean to 'bar' people from certain content.

Although, with Festool, there might be something in that theory. They seem very keen to stop all international trade. I was planning on buying some sandpaper in the US since it was almost half the price it is here in Holland, and the American website advertised with big banners that they'll ship to Europe too. Until I read their disclaimer that they can ship every brand they want outside the USA , except Festool.

I think this is very strongly against what the Free Market idea stands for.

Just a quick update Festool USA seem to have removed the redirection and I can now reach both the Canadian and USA sites from the UK.  It would seem that their staff still read comments on this site.

No changes here... I will have the chance to see a festool USA rep in a couple of weeks and maybe he can give some info on that.

Cheers,

From my home in Burlington, Ontario (not far from Hafele HQ)  ;D when I select www.festool.com I get the worldwide "Please choose a region" page.

When I select the Americas and then www.festoolusa.com I get a "Please select a site to continue" page with U.S. and Canadian flags inviting me to choose which country website I prefer.  After choosing the American flag it takes me to the U.S. site, and on subsequent selections of www.festoolsusa.com it remembers this.

After clearing cookies selecting Canada from the "Please choose a region" page takes me back to the "Please select a site to continue" page, and selecting the Canadian flag takes me to festoolcanada.com.  Now www.festoolusa.com takes me to the Canadian site.

So for me it works reasonably well in that I can see both sites.

But you have to remember to clear the cookies to get to the U.S. site once you have selected the Canadian site.
