What kind of fillers are you guys using for your painted cabinets/ built ins/ etc.?  I'm typically either painting poplar or maple and using  the SW Kem Aqua Plus system.  I've always used shrink free spackle in the past with regular latex paints, but with this new system I'm thinking maybe there's something better I should be using?  This is for filling minor voids, cracks, separations at joints, etc.

Timber-mate
A water based putty
Dries very fast and sands very well
You can mix a little water to make it very thin

Ill chime in for timbermate. I got the hardwood floor filler and it comes as a ummm uhh gel? Very odd texture whatever it is kind of like fish eggs in jello. Anyway I would take it out and spread it on a piece of mdf and just spread it back and forth with a stainless spackle knife and it becomes the very workable. It's very nice to work with once thinned out and I didn't find i needed any water. Smells like formaldehyde though.

I chime in for Timbermate as well.  If you are going to stain, I find that the neutral color works best.  I tried the cherry color for using with cherry wood, and it stood out much more than the neutral.  Only problem with TM, and it's not usual for fillers, is that it will dry out quickly if you leave the lid off....keep the lid on, and maybe will need to add some water.
