As I am working with 200 year old reclaimed wood I am coming across a lot of nails that are below the surface. Already ruined one blade on my table saw. Would anyone have any recommendations on a nail finder. I would need to be able to scan at least 1" in to the wood. The wood is red pine.
Thanks,

Another member mentioned just yesterday using a Lumber Wizard to find nails in his 200 year old reclaimed wood.  No matter what type you use, go over it several times for safety sake.

I purchased a "junior" metal detector on Amazon a few months ago—was under $20 IIRC. Runs on two 9v batteries, is small in size and has worked great for me to check reclaimed wood before my saw/planer finds it.

I think the link should be:

Don't forget your safety glasses!

Also getting the nails out will save a lot of other equipment like a joiner or planner that is more expensive than a saw blade and harder to change the cutting blades.

I always found staples to be the real bad guy, nasty cuts and small debris flying around when cut.

I have Bosch GMS120 Digital Wall Scanner  which  has  a metal scanner.

I've used it on old timber a few times to find  nails.  It will penetrate  right  through  50mm of pine with ease.
I've noticed it even picks up  the remnants  of  rust  still in the timber  after the nail is withdrawn.

I saw an ausie on youtube using a hand held metal detector designed for frisking but he was using it to find nails. Not really made for that task but it 's fun to use because it's a cool toy like something you see on TV. :-)
