Fine Woodworking Correction?

I noticed in the latest issue of Fine Woodworking a little blurb about the C18 under new products.  What was curious, though, is that the blurb stated that the C18 represents Festool's entry into the 18V cordless drill line-up.  But the T18 preceded the C18, right?  So maybe you want to clarify/correct that with the editor.

You've probably misunderstood their point.

I've not seen the article, but I surmise that they're saying that from a consumer perspective,  the C18 represents the entry point to get a Festool 18v cordless dril, as opposed to the more expensive PDC 18v drill, for example.

Not that the C18 is Festool's first attempt at entering the 18v market, as you seem to have interpreted it.

I have written to Fine Woodworking several times and I always get a prompt reply.

Edward is right.  Perhaps you should look at what was written in the magazine issue before posting.

Here's the first sentence in the Fine Woodworking write-up: "The C18 is Festool's first 18-volt drill."

Was the C-18 the first 18 volt drill introduced in Germany? Could be the first 18 volt drill released, just not the first here.

Tom

[size=14pt]The C18 was only released in Europe this year, the PDC at least last year, if not the year before. And the PDC is based on an even older Protool model.

As for the comment re reading, let alone the apparent lack of research by the Magazine, let they who have never made a fool of themselves on this Forum cast the first -

Why do we have this uproar?  Somebody that's irritated just contact Fine Woodworking and ask for a correction.

Slow news night. [huh]

I'm not privy to the editorial practices at Fine Woodworking, but tool announcements seem like the sort of brief item that would get assigned to a junior staff member -- I doubt the senior editors would make this sort of mistake, especially since the magazine often features Festool tools in their projects (though it should have been caught in the copy editing process).

Agree, however that Junior Reporter might have been following
a Press Release prepared by -[size=14pt] F E S T O O L    USA.  [eek]

My guess (not seen the article) would be that as this is under "new products", that the word "first" should probably have been "latest" as I do believe the C18 is the last 18-volt drill to have left the stable...

Answering the call to duty.  I'm sitting in the lobby of the Fine Woodworking offices as we speak, thumbing through a decade old issue of "Practical Dentistry" and waiting for my turn to take our case to the corrections committee, which as I understand is being assembled with much haste, due to the enormous influence of the FOG.  We shall get to the bottom of this, for I have come well prepared: full color timeline foldout showing all festool offerings and the exact time they were released in all markets, and I've also rehearsed my "this confusion will not stand, man" speech.  Soon, I shall stand before the pope of dovetails and present our case;  I will not let you down guys...

"...You mean, like an Irish Monk?".

It's good to see that some are picking up on the imbedded cultural references.  Did you also enjoy my little reversal with the magazine comment:  In doctor's offices you would find very old issues of Fine Woodworking magazines, so in the FW lobby you would naturally find very old medical magazines...Come to think of it, once I start explaining it, it loses some of the humor--ain't that always the case!

As an update on "the C18/T18 situation", we still don't have a final word on the matter.  The editorial team is still busy deliberating on how many chisel sharpening articles to include in the next issue...

In the meantime, "stay away from my special lady friend, man!"

Teo,

Ask FOG member FatRoman, or my Special Lady Friend, and they will tell you that I can go all day long with the references to TBL.  It is a sickness  [eek] , but I'll abstain because it's likely that most FOGers are like Donnie and have no frame of reference.

Signing off now, on my way to look for a cash machine. [big grin]

Yeah, you're right.  It would be unfair to hijack this important thread just for the sake of being fatuous...

We should start our very own Lebowski thread, but at the moment I'm just too exhausted from being a nihilist.

'And a good day to you, sir!'
