Finished up a walnut slab

Just finished up a walnut slab top for my kitchen. 3.5" thick, 15" wide and 100" long.
I planed it down from a 4" rough slab, knocked the bark off it and sanded it with a variety of sanders including a mirka 5", a Rotex and a rts400. Pretty happy with the results, I like working with slabs and this was a rare opportunity to do one for myself finally.
I toned it a little during finishing to bring out some color and get some brown into the sap wood. Finished it with Sherwood conversion varnish.
It's one of the last things I need to finish up my kitchen. I'll post some pictures after it's done.

Beautiful. How much does that sucker weigh? Looks very substantial.

Great job and nicely executed butterfly's that will look awesome in your kitchen.  I imagine that sucker weighs a lot and took some hefting around to get it finished.  What did you use to do the rough planing?

Not sure what it weighs but I'd guess around 125-150lbs? It was pretty annoying to move around. It was really pretty flat when I picked it up so I just ran it through my 20" planer a bunch of times and it cam out really nice actually. I really just knocked the bark off with a rubber mallet and took my rotex on the edges and worked from 120 to 280 grit

Got the slab installed and used the other chunk I had and made a coffee table.

Nice job.  Well done on the butterflies and on the finish.  The pairing of walnut with your white cabinets is excellent.
