Finished up another kitchen

Just finished up another kitchen for a client down in Philly. Turned out really well all things considered. Knocked a wall down between the dining room and existing kitchen and it really opened things up. As usual many a Festool were used, especially for the installation.

Nice use of space behind the door.  What is stored in the tall thin cabinet?

Did you use poplar or maple for the materials?  And how about the finish - you do that or just the build?

All hard maple doors and drawer fronts throughout. Drawer boxes are 5/8" dovetailed cherry. The tall thin cabinet is tray divides on the upper section and a pull out below for can and spice storage.

The finish is a base white conversion varnish in a 10 sheen, most of which was done by my finisher. I did some of the finishing myself also though. We decided to change the layout a little during the install so I had to finish a new cabinet and some parts.

Can you give some details on the conversion varnish ---  Brand name,  primer, number of coats, sequence , etc.  Is there a clear coat on top?  Looks great.

I'll talk to my finisher and get the exact details. He just gave me a gallon of the conversion varnish and the catalyst for it since I only had a few items to spray. I didn't use a primer, just 1 coat, sanded with 320 grit, second coat, sanded again and final coat. No top required, it is a 10 sheen varnish right out of the can.
Conversion varnish is amazing stuff, really hard and durable. I typically spray Valspar Ultra conversion lacquer. It's a little less expensive and much easier for me to work with. Also has a 6 month pot life after being catalized, which is nice. I'm not really a finish guy but I get by just fine. I leave my larger to projects to my finisher.

I used Blum, I think they're 563H's. Used the locking devises with the 3 way adjustability as well. Nice to have the in-out adjustability for inset.
