I have one paint grade project going on where I probably try the through tenons, flush sawn. How ever the joint will end up, I will over paint them...
I'll try to get some pictures other through tenon joints but, here is one in black walnut with maple wedges. The mirror has a through extended tenon cut with a hand saw. The mortise was cut with my Domino xl 700. I just finished an oak desk where I used sipo tenons for a through tenon joint showing off the contrast however it's an L- shaped desk and the area where I installed it the joint is not visable (I should have taken a picture)
Make sample joints with scrap to get the look you want - it relieves the stress of screwing up your major project.
