Well, I had three sheets of "Ebony" Formica on 12mm MDF turn up this morning - at 8:00am prompt - thank you Mitchells Worktops...

I have to admit, I thought they look pretty darn good.

Here's a few photo's of what I've been upto. I'm at the stage where all measurements done, battens up and squared, panels cut. I'm just leaving some glues on the BACK of the laminates to see what holds best - any recommendations ?!?

I'll end up with 20mm gap left, top & right. 20mm gap to the bottom of which 12mm will be taken by some Alu to stop "stuff" going down the back of the kitchen units.

No chips either side of the Formica - I used a bit of 6mm MDF to cut on...

still got lot's of "little" finishes to do to it... Like ensure I have Ebony 'behind' the panels, where the gaps are, so you, well, don't see a gap. I might laminate the "sides" of the panels, but I don't have a laminate trimmer, and I don't really want to do it by hand... Equally I don't want to spend ?299 on the FESTOOL trimmer... Perhaps just sand the side, PVA it and paint it a dark brown...

If you do not mind a little dust there are many laminate trimmers that sell for 49.00 to 119.00 that are more than adequate. Porter Cable, Freud and the Bosch Colt come to mind.

Just trimming you would not get much dust anyway. If you had a laminate trimmer I bet you would find many other uses for it also. If you get a laminate trimmer router I bet you could not do without it again.

I have also had good luck using the hand non powered trimmer (cutters).

Nice clean look...Paul.
I do have a suggestion, would it be possible to split that DW door to match the adjacent cabinets?  I see the current panel would only be enough for two panels but if you have an extra piece this would be a great Domino moment.

Victor,

You threw me!! DW?? Ah... Dish washer ! It's actually a Fridge, which, when pulled out, all the draw pull out - like trays... I like the idea for splitting. However... The laminate that's used for the face of those units is 10mm thick with an Aluminum bevel on the edge that goes into the laminate about 8mm. It's ordered from a company called bulthaup in germany (http://www.bulthaup.com/) very expensive and takes months to come... This kitchen is from the B3 range.. It's an acquired taste and not normal 'American' kitchen furniture... (my mum and dad have a place in florida).

To sort out the edging, I used the MFT/3 & TS55 and was able to cut 12mm x 1600mm stips of laminate without ANY nips/burs. Then stuck it to the side - you'd never notice and difference - looks great. Cheaper than a lami trimmer...

Right, nearly done. All edges laminated (TS55 trim laminate to 12.5mm and stuck to edges) Laminate cut and stuck behind gaps. Aluminium profile cut to bottom. Just need to stick it down. Then I will do a final pic of the kitchen. I'm currently standing under a thirty foot glass roof...

Bulthaup are excellent cabinets!  Yes the 12 week turnaround can really throw a monkey wrench into a plans.
Is that an induction cooktop, a Liebherr fridge?

Oh, yes, the 12 week turn around... To be honest, Bulthaup only send out what the designer asks for... It was the local design shop who ordered the incorrect stuff. The induction hob is great - used to use gas... I'd never go back. Liebherr fridge, a dream. What you see if 3500mm long and is about 1/3 of the kitchen. The other stuff are two "fisher paykel" built-in dish washers, a 1.8m high bank for combi micro wave, oven and VERY WELL USE coffee machine (and a couple of warming trays). I've got a second kitchen for cleaning and washing in (in the cellar conversion). This was my - ignore the price, do what you want renovation of a house!! I saved a bundle fitting the kitchen myself - they charge ?250/day...
