For the cabinet experts, Refacing

Morning guys,
I am about to take on a cabinet refacing project with the cabinets in place. Easy to remove old edge banding but the new banding is solid wood fleece back. Question do I need to remove all the old glue from front edges before I apply contact adhesive to glue on new banding? Is solvent based glue best or do I need to use something else for glue?

I've never done what you describe. I'd recommend testing it, see how it holds. I like 3M High Strength 90, you may want to look for a water based in your situation.
