For those of you in the path of the Hurricane

That's good.  Ike must of been the largest hurricane I've ever seen ---- huge.  We probably had worse weather here than for Gustav
and Ike came at night.  You don't exactly sleep well when you are afraid of your roof coming off ---- or as we  were on the east side of the storm, the fear of Tornadoes is there for sure ----- always listening for the sound of a freight train.  Scary stuff.

Sleep ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

I couldn't sleep after 11:00 P.M..  Ike was a monster storm.  We were lucky that it was not as bad as expected, the surge was expected to be 25'-30'.

Galveston is not a city anymore, the Mayor told to Galveston residents to not comeback because they cannot live there anymore.

I live in Houston (Northwest going to Austin) and we got a lot of wind, but not much rain. Rain came Saturday after Ike when a cold front clash with all the humidity left by Ike and then we got flooding in areas that Ike didn't flood.

No power, gas, food, etc.  Houston we have a problem.

I am lucky damages to my home are minor but others were not that lucky.

I'm glad you are alright --- my sister lives north of Houston in Porter and she doesn't have any electricity.  My father and I have been trying to help her fix her generator as it won't (wouldn't) start ----- she finally got it running after letting someone work on it ------damn carburetors , always get mucked up if you let them.  Hate to hear that about Galveston --- I have fond memories of that place.  Texans are tough, you guys will abide  ;)

Justin, Fidel:

'Glad y'all are all safe!

I went through Alicia in '83 (I think). We had ~90 MPH wind, the eye went right over us - just west of downtown Houston, and it knocked down oaks and pecans all over the place. This one looked like it would be worse to me because it was so big.

I live in Austin now on a hill. I don't miss flooding...

Ahhh Tom -- what would Austin be without hills ?  ;) ---- man I love the Hill Country ---- take me away to the Guadalupe, Bandera, Kerville , etc,  anytime.

I'm about 3 blocks from Barton Creek. It was dry this year but last year, it was like a dreamy beer commercial almost all summer...

Tom -- you lucky dog  ;) ----- serious folks if you ever get a chance to wonder through the Texas Hill Country, don't miss it.  I've lived my whole life next to Texas and I visit there often as I have a sister north of Houston and one in Gatesville (near Waco).  I'm always impressed at what's new to see in Texas -- I guess it really is like a whole 'nother country  :).
