Found a use for my Festool Tape Measure.

I needed to draw a few large circles on plywood for a project I was doing when I realised that my compasses were not long enough to give me the radius that I needed, I went back into the house to get a bit of string (was going to use with a pin nail) when I spotted the Festool Tape Measure on the mantelpiece (where it has sat as an ornament since I got the tape measure at Christmas), 5 minutes later I had drawn my circles beautifully. Great job and I will keep it purely for that now.

Last week I realised that the same window also showed the measurement including the tape's base - making internal measurements easy.

I cannot think of a worse tool that they have made.
And have had 1 come apart, and the second in dire shape.

But it is great for circles, so I am reserving it just for that.

My favourite tape measurerererer.

I handed out my last one and bought the festool version at the shop at...$26
the next day.  It's not a $26 tape measure, but I was also able to pick up at the shop...so...
It's certainly not for contractors and carpenters and whatnot.  In fact, they are rinky dinky... but I have grown quite fond of them over the years.  Crappy catch and all.  They certainly can survive a fall, however.

There was a "how it's made" type German television program that showed the viso being assembled.  I've lost track of the YouTube link, though.

I don't consider it a proper Festool tool. I am always disappointed when reputable companies give away cheap items as gifts / freebies. Why put your company logo on crap? Don't get me started about the 'Festool' stubby holder I received last week. It just lowered my perception of the company. It went straight into the bin.

My company does the same.

Having said that, I do use the Festool tape measure in the workshop as I prefer the black on white over the black on yellow of my other tape measures.

Festool should remove their name from the tape measure.  It's not qualität and in my experience, it does not survive a minimal drop without damaging internals, specifically the lock.  The two plastic halves creak a lot.

The worst thing is when they copied the VISO, is they put the window markings upside down from the tape markings!

The small size is nice to fit in your pocket, but I wish it was an auto-lock and made out of a beefier material.  Not worth $26.

...

What went into the bin?  :-X
The perception of the company or the stubby holder?

I bought the tape and got a low quality tool that broke, and paid more for it because of the name.
I was dumb enough to do it again thinking there was no way it could be that bad. [embarassed]

It is actually good thing though because I now fully investigate each tool, rather than assume the name has any bearing on quality from one tool to the next.

[size=13pt]Re Stubby Holder, make up your own mind.

I have gratefully received three swags in the past 4 years. The stubby holder is the only item I have either binned or given away. This one is for a work colleague.

I do not have the Tape a Measure, but the Folding Ruler is certainly a keeper.  [smile]

Until you posted that picture, I was baffled by the "stubby holder" references.  [blink]  We call that a koozie around here.  Very descriptive.

Where can I buy this tape measure in the USA?

It is not a copy. It’s a BMI rebranded & BMI is a very reputable company. This is a pretty good measuring device but has no place on a construction site.

Festool order# is 495415. List price in Germany: € 12,14 (at current ex-rate: $ 13.56).
Prices I have seen: € 13,20 at Sauter, Germany; £ 7.77 at Nuts&Bolts, United Kingdom.

For real dou. Since I purchased the Festool tape measure it's been my go to tape when I'm woodworking or doing stuff in the house. Otherwise it's my $25 Milwaukee tape measure with it's awesome magnet.

The Festool tape measure is great if it's used how it was probably meant to be used. In a shop, not on a construction site or as a #1 tape for related projects. Its a woodworking measure, if you're expecting to take it outside to build your deck then you're wasting your own money.

Just my opinion.

To me it's my day to day tape, like easy to hold accurate, for other things like measuring a flat panel like ply for a cab box side that I need to be in 32mm increments , I use my fast cap flat tape. I also have a reg fast cap tape that I use for construction type projects .
But for mark and measuring reg day to day things,
That little Festool tape works for me.
