I built this work table five months ago to make maximum use of Festool clamping elements and as a general work surface and rolling storage unit tailored to Systainers and vacuum hoses. The lower part of the unit can be built out to accommodate whatever additional storage suits your needs: drawers, cabinets, accessory holders, etc.
It is a double wide, multi-function table that uses the original rails and corner pieces that came with the MFT/3 I bought in 2016. I ordered an additional side rail and other hardware from Festool to make it exactly twice the normal size. The top measures 43.25" x 43.25" and the work surface is 38.25" from the floor. There is a generous 10.75" space between the underside of the top and the storage shelf that allows plenty of room to access clamping knobs, etc.
The legs are 4”x4" steel welded to 1.5” and 1" steel angle, then primed and painted with gray enamel. The white and gray Melamine surfaces are trimmed with Formica and/or rubber bumper T-molding. The pads on the casters can be quickly cranked down to keep the whole table stationary. I estimate it's weight at about 300 pounds.
The table extension can be moved anywhere around the perimeter as needed. The black mounting blocks are made from MDF and the overhang allows for clamping elements to hold long vertical workpieces without interference.
The main top and the extra (in background) were CNC cut to the same 20mm hole pattern and spacing as the original Festool top (but doubled in size). The top that's on the piece is in nearly new condition with no cuts or imperfections. The second top is a brand new spare.
I'd like to sell the table for $950 picked up at my shop near Asheville, NC or there's a good chance I can deliver it to you for a very reasonable fee.
After 35 years of building studio furniture and public art, I am retiring and selling almost everything in my shop. More at: JohnClarkFurniture.com
