I searched and couldn't find a yes or no answer.

Will the fs-rapis clamps part #489 790, fit into the side t-track on my mft/3?

Or is this wishful thinking?

Thanks

Darcy

I just checked, and in their standard setup they won't fit. (There are plastic ridges on the sides that make contact with the guiderail in recessed areas of the bottom of the rail). I 'll try to see if it's easily adjusted and will still clamp to the rail properly.

Update: No  [sad]

You can adjust the "play" in the bar that slides in the T-track by taking off the lever and repositioning it.

But the amount of travel you get by moving the lever is very little. I had to reset it quite a bit to get the clamp into the groove, but it needed more to get the back part in aswell.

I didn't try to adjust it further, because at this point it wouldn't work with the guiderails anymore.
It might be possible to get it to work if you file or sand down the plastic ridges, but for me personally I have no use for them on my mft, so I won't try that.

Here are a few more pics:

PS I saw this was posted in the "ask festool" section after I posted my reply (got here via the new post links at the bottom).
Just for clarity, I am not a festool employee, just a guy who has a mft3 and the fs-rapid clamps.

You're welcome.

The FS-rapid clamps come in handy every once in a while (not as much as I thought they would when I got them). When you use them you should be carefull not to overthighten them (which is easy and will cause the rail to bend a bit).
But they are ideal if you have to cut a cabinet or box that is already assembled (or stuff that is otherwise hard to clamp with the regular clamps).
I have also used them for repeated cuts aswell, which I thought would be the primary use for them, but I don't like them very much for that purpose, and if the cut isn't square, tightening the clamps will cause the rail to move of the mark.
Up until a few years ago festool sold profiles that were specially meant for the fs-rapid clamps so you could use them as a bar clamp.

I got mine for trimming the bottom of doors while they are still on. You can use a normal clamp on the lock side of the door but not on the hinge side so I bought one of these and it works fine.

Ooh, I'll have to try that next time.
We did cut some big barn doors once while they were still hanging, but I just drilled and countersunk some holes in the guiderail, and screwed it to the door.

I think that rail is the fence extrusion for the MFT 1080.  That is available as a part.  That clamp can also be used with the standard rails using the t-slot.  There is a picture of that on page 11 of that document.  I'll get the fence part number and add to this post.
