Festool has gained Full Unit HEPA Certification for their CT Dust Extractors!

If you have a CT 26 or CT 36 and are involved in RRP work on houses built before 1978 and are using practices that required a HEPA vacuum, you can now upgrade your CT to be fully compliant with the strictest standards FREE OF CHARGE! Fill out This Form and Festool will send you their updated HEPA filter and a copy of the certificate stating that your unit is compliant.

If you have a MINI or MIDI and currently have a HEPA filter, check to see if it says "HEPA" on the filter. If not, you need to get a new one, product number 496752.

You can download and/or print the certificate of compliance for a MIINI here and the cert' for a MIDI here.

Don't forget that you have to use the correct filter(s) for the certificate(s) to be valid.

All I need to do is buy a new HEPA filter for my Mini and it's good for lead dust?

What about the CT 22?

The official statement on the 22/33...

Festool CT 22 and CT 33 dust extractor models were discontinued in 2010. These units were not designed, tested or marketed as a solution for the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) regulations. Since 2006, both models have shipped standard with main HEPA filters, which offer filtration levels of 99.997% of particulates down to 0.3 microns in size. Festool continues its commitment to support discontinued power tools with the CT 22 and CT 33 Dust Extractors through the availability of spare parts, accessories, and consumables for a minimum of seven years after the date of discontinuance.

If you are engaged in work that is affected by the EPA's RRP regulations, Festool recommends that you upgrade to the most current models of CT Dust Extractors to fully comply with the rules as they apply to HEPA dust extractors.

Tom, this is confusing.  I just bought a CT 36.  I have to upgrade it's filter to have the best version?  There's a BETTER heap filter for it?

- And I can get one free, by filling out this form?

That's what you're saying here, but it doesn't sound logical.  Please elaborate.

Thanks.

I am not Shane, but I have studied the statements.

If you have a CT-36 you don't have to buy anything.  If your vac doesn't have a label, just contact Festool and get a label.

If I am wrong, Festool will advise I am sure.

I am moving this thread to the ask festool area of the fiorum.

Yes, all you need to do is fill out the form and Festool will take care of you...

The new ones I have seen that are already outfitted for full compliance have a sticker on the outside of the box that states they are compliant.

EDIT:
This program is for CT 26 and CT 36 owners.

EDIT of My EDIT:
It also includes CT MIDI and CT MINI but the solution is different as stated in my original post.

I am Shane, last I checked.  [blink]

Here's the dealeo... If you use your CT for RRP work, and only if you use it for RRP work, do you even need to pay attention to this stuff. Your CT has a HEPA filter. We're not offering you a better HEPA filter. The filter material has not changed whatsoever.

We're talking about a filter that ensures that there is absolutely no leakage around, passed, under, etc. the filter. We're talking about the seal made between the filter and the housing. If you're sucking up nasty lead-based paint, that matters more according to the EPA. The new filter addresses very specific language in the RRP regulations.

If you do use your CT for RRP, head over the link Tom posted and claim a free filter which will get your CT Full Unit HEPA Certified, meaning there's no bypass leakage.

Hope that answers the question(s).

Shane

Thanks.

I don't need any certification, as I'm not a contractor, but I am sanding a lot of really old paint which may contain lead.  I also have acute silicosis, from a recent concrete grinding job, so I'm massively anal retentive about my filtration.

There's no sticker on my box. (Either the packing box nor the filter-holding box.  - not sure what was meant, above.)

I'll fill out the form & see what happens.  Hopefully Festool will take care of me.

I just purchased (last week) a CT Midi from Lee Valley in Victoria BC. Reading all the different information in these posts I am confused about whether my Midi is HEPA certified. There is no writing/sticker on the box indicating HEPA as mentioned in one of these posts; there is no writing on the filter indicating HEPA as mentioned in another post here. In other threads I have seen it mentioned all Midi's shipped after June or July 2011 are HEPA. How do I find out if my MIdi is HEPA certified? There is sooo much information in these formums.
Thanks

Fletchtool

I need to recant my earlier note. I just removed the filter from the side panel that fits over and locks the filter in place and notice that it is HEPA. Sorry for the false alarm.

Fletch, I'm not sure if there are stickers on the CTs going to Canada since the stickers are due to regulations in the US. I'm fairly confident that you would have gotten the upgraded version since Lee Valley didn't begin receiving inventory until a month or so ago. I see that you discovered the writing on the filter as I wrote my reply. The older, non-HEPA filter for the MINI/MIDI was brown-ish in color. The HEPA filter would be white. Note the images below are stock photography and may not be the exact product but a close representation of it.

You are forgiven!   [poke]

Thank you for taking the time to post that.  It probably will elevate eliminate (OOPS for my typing) some concerns for those thinking of purchasing.

Thank you Peter and Shane.
I am really impressed with the FOG: great search and filtering. I am really appreciating the quality of the information and timely responses.

I also purchased a Midi at Lee Valley (last Thursday) and was wondering the same thing as Fletchtool.  Did a bit of research, ended here and BAM!!; the answer is right there, with a picture, and from Festool rep.  Wow!  Was so impressed, decided to join FOG so I could leave this comment and say thank you to Shane.

This is my first time buying a Festool, but I think I'm in love  [big grin]

Glad you found the answer to your question and your way to the FOG. Welcome to the forum and congrats on your first Festool power tool.  [big grin]
