I have just finished a desk for my niece. The design is inspired by Kellie Smits’ funky Insekt desk. The material is 18mm Russian birch ply with Laminex laminate. My enhancement was to have an aluminium strip running down each side of the centre slot so panels can be dropped in reducing the size of the opening as required. I also added push-to-open runners for the draw.
The laminate blade (496308 160x2.2x20 TF 48) for the TS-55 was absolutely essential. I just sanded the cut face and ran some 400 grit paper along the edge of the laminate. Definitly developed my routing skills during this project. Internal partitions are dominoed into the top as alignment with the centre slot was the priority. The bottom was then free to move as I aligned it to the upside-down top.
Tools used: TS 55, OF 1010, VS 600, DF 500, DTS 400.
