Game changer? Innovative hose adapter by Fastcap

I'm addicted now.  "You just put it on, twist, take your hose, and you are good to go."

Fastcap has a long history of innovative products--some designs that they purchased from other manufacturers or produced under license.

They have also dropped several over the years--I guess that is the risk when you are being innovative.

This looks interesting.  I wonder what the pull-out strength is.  Especially if saw dust is on the surfaces.  but very clever indeed.

If you noticed when he puts the adapter on the Rotex, because the adapter is not centered on the dust port of the tool the bottom of the adapter is lower than the face of the sander so it will be dragging across your work or catching on the side of the work and possibly disengaging.

It's innovative, but is it practical? Maybe not for every situation. Hard to believe they went with one size fits all. Seems like a second version about 66% of the original would be a nice fit for all those tools with smaller hose connections.

I know from my experience with my Gripper push block, that the rubber parts have to be very clean or they slip against the work stock.

I keep a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol for that purpose, but mostly use wood push sticks of my own fabrication.

So I am wondering how difficult it will be to clean the dust from that contraption.  Otherwise I would expect it to fly off whenever there is a tug on the hose.

Exactly what I was thinking. Great for the larger ports, but anything around the size of sanders, Domino, and maybe even the Kapex and it's a bit too big. Really, way too big for sanders and Domino.

Super cool idea and it has to start somewhere.

Those who write are familiar with the saying: "The first draft of anything is s...."

If this adapter was the first draft, it would have a very bright future in my opinion (Fastcap also makes improvements based on user feedback). Maybe not for everything -- esp. not for most of the Festool products which come with choices of CTs -- but it is pretty good for many other brands.

One of the local vendors here is considering this product. If it decides to stock it, I'll sure get one to try it out. For $30 Can or so, it'll be worth a shot. I'm pretty sure it'd work with my Kapex, currently used with a DD and my belt sander. My drill press, disc sander, etc. will also be good candidates.

Well that's different.

I would never want that on a sander. In part because I would never want a large hose on a sander.  It is probably good for some types of hand held tools and I could see it being quite good on stationary.

Also ......................  this would be good to have available when you just need to hook something up. Something not planned ahead.  Just like having any other type of adapter on hand. Seems like I will get one to keep in the shop for those need to connect X to Z moments.

The easiest for me is to upload images as End-of-post expandable thumbnails.

This places a thumbnail in your post that people can click on for the full-size image then click
once more to reduce back to a thumbnail. It makes it very easy for everyone to view photos.

On a Windows PC you can also right click on the image and choose Resize Image from the pop-up menu. You can create a new image or overwrite the original. You can also resize multiple images at the same time, just select the images you wish to resize then right click on one.

I was impressed up until the point he talked about how it's perfect for connecting a Rotex and other hand tools.

Then, I had visions of Dan Aykryod pitching the Super Bass-o-Matic.https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=276052867040301

and the ShamWOW guy.

Have lost a bit of respect for FastCap as that adapter is just plain stooopid for a handheld sander, as is a 2+ " hose.

The adapter wouldn't work well for tools with a low-profile port. As Seth pointed out, the adapter, given the hose size involved, is more suitable for stationery machines. If I manage to get one, I'd try it with my Kapex and belt sander.

For Festool small tools like the DF500 or sanders, before I had the CT26 or CT15, I simply used some vac hoses direct with the shop vac. Adapters were found unnecessary.
