Gas cook top install question

Seth. It doesn't look anything more than a weather strip you can get just about any where. I am guessing it goes on the bottom or side edge before it gets inserted into an opening, more or less as a way to keep it tightly in place

Judging by the photo that's just a strip of 1/8" x 3/8" open celled polyurethane foam.

At that position on the cooktop I doubt it needs to be heat resistant.

The problem you may have in finding a reasonably priced substitute is to get a strip
of sufficiently low density foam so that it doesn't lift the trim from the counter.

I've done may cooktops. It's just a plan old everyday piece of self adhesive foam weather strip.

When I did our kitchen the gas unit had a strip of silicon rubber that was described as heat proof. The instructions also recommended using some reflective aluminium tape on the inside of the opening. The tape was quite expensive as I only needed less than 2 m but it came on a big roll.

I am surprised that this is not covered by one of your building codes.

This is the only picture I have of the installation.

Well for about $12 I could buy pretty much every type of weather stripping and see which works best.

The reflective heat tape (true duct tape , yes?) Anyone in the USA know if that is needed?  Install instructions do not mention it.

Not required. Could be the way the tops are built for each market.
