Interesting. I'm flying over to London tonight for my Dad's 70th birthday party. I wonder if I can convince him to spend his birthday traipsing round a woddwork show...

Well some people went, I know the local Hammer/Felder rep from Milton Keynes very well and when I spoke to him yesterday he had been at this event all three days and said it was the best show they have been at for orders and possible sales.

I went to Toolfair 2011 in Harrogate last week, and it was heaving! Much busier than I expected. So either the economy is picking up, or everyone went for a free day out 'cos they had no work on... [blink]

I went in the end, it was a good enough actually. Spoke to David Savage for a bit about his amazing furniture which was cool and Phil Edwards of Philly planes who was a really nice guy, although he was there demoing Lie Nielseon stuff.  Decent Festool stand with most of their tools, some nice Veritas and Lie Nielsen stuff, all you'd expect, really. I visited the hammer stand fully ready to place an order for the Hammer bandsaw, but came away disappointed, actually; after the salesman ran through all his standard patter about all the features (without asking me if I knew anything about it already, the silly man) I asked what benefits it offered over the Startrite 502 that was a few stands away and which was about £250 less. He said that he didn't know and that they probably came out of the same factory. He also said that the Hammer had ceramic guides top and bottom which I thought wasn't right, but I was too irritated to ask him.  I was also so annoyed at this total lack of knowledge about the Startrite (I mean surely, surely if one of your main competitors was displaying at the same show you might have done a little bit of homework about their product??) that I couldn't bring myself to order the Hammer saw. Silly, really.

Anyway, a good day out.
Rick
