you got a lot of capasitors in that box!  whats the size of the transformer? and the voltage?
what the heck is it for?

It is the control panel for my 10hp Rotary Phase converter.

Pair that panel with the 10hp 3 phase idler motor I have, 240 single phase feed and I will be making my own 3 phase power to run my wood working machinery I have been buying.

sorry, I should have looked closer to the pic what has the voltage on the sticker by the terminal strip...and I should have know that 1ph uses caps. I guess my finger got ahead of my thinking.  Looks good.  hope it all works out for you.

Why?????????????????????

Also, be sure not to cross the phase emitter array with the plasma dilithium coupling or you'll generate a tachion burst that could tear a hole in the subspace temporal continuum......... [scared]

jaysus for a second there i thought you were serious as i read the start of that. i thought you were a fancy proffesor or sceintist

No, just a smart-*ss Scot (by heritage) with a penchant for Star Trek geek humor.

Why what?

I am not able to get 3 phase power in my 1500 sq/ft home shop, at least not cheaply.

3 phase equipment is way cheaper to buy then single phase.

3 phase costs less to operate and if/when I move into a dedicated building, I already have the 3 phase machines.

idler motor will cost me 3.55 to run 8 hours a day, it will never be run all day long.

Thx. I had no idea such a thing even existed!

"Yeah? Are you gonna make it all 220?  "
"Yeah. 220... 221, whatever it takes. "

Really ? ???

Well, I got my 3 phase panel installed and conduit run to each machine.

Once everything was buttoned up, I hit the start button on my RPC and went over to each machine and they fired right up!!

Now that the easy part is done you get to work on your dust collection.  At your speed you should be in business by Christmas. [wink]

Piping is here, just need to get it up.

It seems like this is taking forever, even to me.

I will say that I went from 1500 sq/ft of storage mess to an almost up and running wood shop in about 2 months time.

Not too bad for still having to work on people's house's most days and having my third child in that time line as well.

I am getting a bit anxious though.

The scary thing is that I understood EVERYTHING in "Star Trek" 'speak' you posted, and I'm also beginning to understand JMBFestool's version of Kings English. That really worries me..... [big grin]

That's pretty good, cranking away.  Get some help if you can with the DC pipe, putting it up solo is a PIA.

Congrats on #3, our #2 is due in 3 weeks.  The fact that you are getting anything done is reassuring.  I have been busting my butt to get stuff done before the little guy comes as once he does I am probably going to be too busy to do much.

So did you get a cyclone to handle those monster machines?

I wish I could have found a used cyclone close to home but, I couldn't

I bought a grizzly 2 bagger (2 up 2 down) with a 3hp motor.

Before winter I am planning on upgrading to a cyclone with a 3 phase motor.

There are still a couple machines on the wish list, floor model DP and a 27"-32" band saw.

Oh, a couple more shapers would be nice too.

Got everything dialed in today, cleaned and waxed all the tables.

Planer is running like a champ, the Oliver jointer is a sweetheart, the 1941 Delta shaper is awesome and the 5 hp PM 66 purrs like a kitten ( a powerful, hungry kitten).

Congratulations BTW on your third child and getting all that work done on the new shop.

While I understand the drive (and anxiety) to get the shop set up, work will always be there...the kids just grow up fast.
