Hi,

I need to glue two layers of 2x8 1in veneer core ply together.  I did a test piece with titebond woodglue but the high viscoscity made the sheets hard to press together uniformly.  Is there a different wood glue or resin that would better suit this task?  Can I water down the titebond to lower the viscosity and make the sheets easier to clamp together?

Try placing the two boards together and then sliding them back and forth until you get a uniform bond film.  I would not water down the Tightbond.

DC there are many ways to try to align two pieces of plywood together perfectly, including pinning them.

However I have done this quite a few times and I have found the only psychologically sound practice is to cut your sheets an inch oversize, align them as best you can, when the glue is set make your final cut.

Vacuum bagging the pieces will guarantee they are uniformly pressed together.

Beware of names. Typically the veneer adhesive is a contqact cement whic you asbsloutley do not want. The link you had was for Titebond Cold Press glue and that is a great choice for this application. It would be best to use a vacuum bag but you should be able to clamp this together. Use blue masking tape to help keep them in position during the assembly. Add a caul to the top piece to protect from clamps. White melamine shelving stock can make a good caul.
