Gluing system for Domino

This is my first post and I hope this is the correct place for this question.

I've been looking at the Domino for some time now and was looking at ways to speed up assembly during glue-up.  I have heard that Rangate has specialized Domino gluing tips for the Pizzi glue dispenser system.  Has anyone tried these tips?  I like the looks of the Pizzi glue unit and it looks like a good match for the Domino.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

[welcome] to the forum.

I suspect that not many will have experience with what you are asking about, but we do have a broad spectrum of members and who knows..

But out of curiosity, how do you envision using the domino and in what quantities.  Maybe some of the others can throw some thoughts your way.

The Lamello biscuit glue bottle has a flattened tip that has openings on the sides of the tip to put glue on the long sides of the biscuit slot. I haven't tried it with my Domino yet, but I just looked at it and it might just work with the smaller dominos - at least up to the 5.  I like to brush on the glue all over the domino, but it is time consuming.  I'm a hobby woodworker, so time is not a factor. Next time I'll try the Lamello bottle and report back.

If you haven't tried it I find the top of the 16oz Titebond glue bottle is just fine for both Domino's & biscuits.

To add to kfitzsimons post on Lamello, I have the "Dosicol" bottle that gives a measured amount of glue in the biscut slot. It's great for production work and they make tips for dowels. the Dosicol is $100 and the dowel tips are another $100

Peter, thanks for the welcome.  I run a small custom millwork shop that does everything from cabinets and built-ins to furniture and other millwork.  The Domino looks like it would add another joint method for us that is flexible enough to work on a wide variety of projects.  From what I can see, it looks like there are 6 sizes available including the two different lengths in the 8mm size.  I'm sure that the actual project will dictate the size of domino used but what sizes tend to be the most popular?

As far as the glue bottles mentioned, we would like to get away from the individual bottles as much as possible and move toward a glue dispensing system.  I looked at the Lamello system and the Pizzi system.  I'm leaning toward the Pizzi system since we can run 3 dispenser guns on it at the same time and I've heard that the dispenser guns are better.  Having the Domino nozzles available also makes it a natural for us to switch to the Domino on certain applications.

Was just wondering if anyone else was using the gluing systems with Domino.

I'm building a 54"wide, 20"deep, 24"high cherry tv stand and I used the three smallest sized dominos.  They work great. Perfect alignment and almost no measuring.  You just have to make sure you're indexing from the correct face and correct end.

Well, I got the Domino and the Pizzi gluing system.  The Domino cuts perfect in hardwoods, MDF, and even in end grain so far.  The Pizzi gluing system has interchangeable tips for all kinds of things including the Dominos.  It applies the glue perfectly for the Domino very quickly and I don't get squeeze out.  The nozzle applies glue on the flat sizes and on the curved ends of the Domino. Overall very pleased with both.

Ooh, that looks very interesting.  All the googled links I found were in the UK, but you are in the US.  Do you have a distributor?  Also, the UK links I looked at imply this is part of a system so it is a nozzle on a hose to a large glue pot used for all-day gluing.  Is that true or is there a bottle version, too?

Nice find.

Paul, You are right, it's a tank system.  It's a pretty great system and has a resealable plastic liner on the inside for the glue, a strainer, and I can hook up 3 separate lines and guns to the tank.

I saw Rangate at the IWF show and ended up bringing one home.  They have a special on on the one that I got.  I'm going to add more tips as I go.  Their website is Rangate  Pizzi page

Here is the unit I got.

Thanks for the links.  Definitely is a smokin' idea, but too expensive a "Glue-Bot" for me.  It did get me thinking if there's a DIY version of it. Hmm.  Those tips would be difficult to make, though.

I just went onto the Pizzi web site and looked at the video! I love it!  Brilliant I will definitely be buying one! Soon as I got the workshop built! Its awesome!

I'm an amateur woodworker so the Glue-Bot or the 16oz Titebond bottle or even a Wal-mart $1.39 condiment bottle all work for me depending what I feel like using.  If I were doing it for profit I would definitely consider that Pizzi set-up.

I do it for a living & this works fine for me.

This is my gluing system for Dominos.

I use one of these.

Stores the glue ready and the brush does not need washing out after each use.
