Finally put together the rig I’ve been thinking about since I got my Grabo months ago.

While I like the Sys Vac it’s probably something I should not spend the money on and they’re not too readily available, but I like the concept.

For this, I’ve mounted a 3” Baby Plate to a white oak board that uses 1/4-20 t-screws to lock into the track. To the baby pin is a Gobo Head, a dual swivel rotating head designed to accommodate a variety of studio fixtures. To the head and to the Grabo is a 12” Matthelini Clamp.

These fixtures allow a wide range of positions. If you’re not familiar these fixtures are widely used in motion picture production by the Grip Department. They’re used to fix and hold a wide variety of materials and designed to be robust and easy to set up, tear down and transport. These pieces are all made by Matthews Studio Equipment in Burbank, CA and are the Festool of the studio gear world.

Cool setup — creative thinking! 😀

I’ve been thinking of getting a Grabo.

You and Forg3D are opening my eyes to workholding possibilities.

I’m gonna mull over the benchtop usage as shown on the Forg3D blog.

However, due to the dog’s sensitive ears, I’ve not bought a compressor nor a vac pump. The one time I borrowed a compressor and nail gun for baseboards, that dog jumped out of an upstairs window! Fortunately he jumped onto the wide bump out for that window.

I’ll have to learn firsthand if the Grabo is annoying to the dog. I can’t be worrying about the dog while operating machinery or lifting sheet goods.

There's also the VacuDog. You'd need a plate for the Grabo, like the one from Izzy Swan and some vacuum line.
