Granat NET abrasive available September 2017 - UK / Europe

Hi
So as an overview....

Less clogging on surfaces prone to high dust levels
Extraction straight through he mesh
High 'cut' rate on the surface
Not available currently for the RO 90 - has been requested
80-400 grit
Easy to position on the pad
Available for the LHS225 and the Planex easy
rg

Does it need a new pad or is it compatible with the old ones?
Differences in suction/dust collection with the old pads (like RO150) in comparison with the classic 'holed' abrasive?
Any differences in how long it lasts, compared to the old version?

Is compatible but advised to use interface pad
Better extraction and less clogging - how to show?....very difficult but I will have some info soon
From the work I have done yes to lasting longer as the dust is cleared quicker and therefore the grit is clear to cut

I'd think this net would work really well for sanding drywall.

These are the thin interface pads I use when using nets with my ETS 150, pack of five Mirka pads costs me the same as one Festool pad, go figure!
I always tend to use the blue hard pad and have found using nets does last longer than when compared to Granat.

They look a lot like the Mirka screens. Are they made by Mirka?
IMO it is hard to beat the screens of one is not dinging the edge of it... In that paper is more sturdy... But the sanding and dust collection is great.
This is a good move forward IMO, for those who do not already use Mirka screens on their FT sanders.

I am a fan of Granat but find that the backing sometimes lets it down - this is typically due to the poor operator but I am sure it could be improved. I look forward to trying the mesh as there is a chance that it will last longer that the paper version, particularly if Phil is right about improved dust collection.

Hmm.  Won't the intrerface pad present problems when you're doing edges, especially at lower grits?  Meaning you would be more prone to round over the edge of a board, even when keeping the sander flat, because of the contouring that occurs on the interface pad.

If I want a sharp edge, I'd never use an interface pad. I can even tell the difference when using a 125 pad (medium) versus a 150 pad (hard) on the ETS EC. The 150 hard pad will produce an edge almost sharp enough to slice your finger.

I wish they made a hard pad for the Pro 5 sanders.  [dead horse]

The Mirka interface pads are very thin.  They're a thin material with hooks on one side loops on the other.  I'd also say you want them because the mesh abrasive can greatly reduce the life of the main sanding pad.

Absolutely, they are a must when using screens. The Mirka pad savers are just over 2mm thick, combined with the blue hard pad there should be no round over.
