Great find at a local dealer

So one of my Mensa employees some how cut the cord to my TS75 a few inches from the plug while out on a deck repair job in the middle of nowhere. Had to do an estimate anyway so decided to go a little out of the way and swing by Niece Lumber in Lambertville NJ.  One of the few dealers up that way.

While grabbing a new cord I look down and see a banded cardboard box with a interesting picture on it with 485 017. No it can’t  be??  Did a quick search to make sure I wasn’t mistaken and yep it’s the 850 bench unit.

Last one they had. I’m going to keep it boxed up for now. If I don’t see a use for it in the next two years will probably sell it but I’m sure I will find some way to use it on a job.

Lucky dog!  I sold mine years ago and wish I had kept it now.  I primarily use my HL850 for the texturing heads but you never know when the bench unit would come in handy.

Thats cool. I got one, keep it in a systainer. Im getting ready (when I get time that is) to mount it in a home made CMS module.

So I can hang it on the wall in the rack with the rest of my modules home made and otherwise.

I have a full size 6 " Jet jointer. But for little pieces nothing beats that bench jointer. Saves the hassle of rolling it out jointing then pushing it back out of the way.

Oh dont forget you will need to buy the auxiliary full length fence for it. Its available from any FT dealer..right now

The unit cost me $50 cord/$119 for the unit about $10 in diesel and we had to come back the next day to finish the job because of the delay.

That is the one problem with Festool. If your in a bind on a job site with a broken part you are pretty screwed.

That is the one problem with Festool.

I'm sorry, but:
IMHO one big upside of Festool stuff is the detachable cord, as you can simply grab a spare one from your van should you have an accident with one currently in use to continue your job without delay. Not having a spare for a 'consumable' (yes it sounds strange, but cords die that way often enough to warrant that view) with you shouldn't be painted as a fault of Festool.
