A couple months ago I built an MFT cart based on the Build Series videos. I started using a couple of the drawers for storing all my measuring and layout tools, but wanted to organize them better.
Iām also a (non-pro) machinist and have spent years thinking about doing kaizen foam inserts for all my tool chests, but never pulled the trigger because I knew it wouldnāt end well. Then I discovered the Gridfinity system and decided to assemble that 3D printer kit I bought a couple years agoā¦. This is my first go at it and Iām really liking how itās turning out:

Itās basically a two-part system consisting of a thin grid baseplate that you line the drawer with and bins that slot into that to lock them into place. There are a variety of open source and online tools to help you create printable models for everything, plus a ton of downloadable models that are ready to print.
What attracted me to this was the ability to build custom inserts like kaizen foam but in a modular way, so I can add/change things with having to redo a full drawer insert.
While Iāll be the first to confess this can easily become an obsession in its own right, I find this kind of organization really helps me to spend much less time walking around the shop mumbling āwhere the $&@! did I put that tapeā like a crazy person.
