My German is quite limited I'm ashamed to say, I might have trouble following the details of the plans without translation...

Hi Christopher
I have found the following web based translator to be useful. It is a computer based translation so you still need to go through and work out the odd word and to mentally process it into "real" English but it beats looking up each word in a German/English dictionary.

I believe they use Google translator but it is capable of quite large documents. I use it on Festool Germany's Holzidee magazine which i download..

Cheers

Thanks for that.
I am buying the mags either way ;)

We need to respect the publisher of the magazine & only provide English translation of the plans for those that buy the magazine(s).  Hopefully, the drawings will be detailed such that not a lot of translation is required.

I e-mailed the gentleman that Guido suggested & received an auto-response that he is out of his office until Oct. 18. -- Hopefully I'll hear back after that.

starting to get [off topic] here but will continue anyway

No arguments from me on that point.. If we don't respect these sorts of things then there will be no reason for publishers to keep investing in people to come up with interesting and innovative projects. . that said there are lots of genuinely free resources available in different languages that I am now able to access.. such as the magazine earlier referred to and a web resource that is able to can translate these be the free or bought from a proprietary source for my own use.

for example I somehow managed to sign up to receive a couple of free copies of the printed Holzidee magazine which have been sent to me in Australia,  one of which came with a copy of Holzwerken, both of these are great magazines but are of limited use to me in hard-copy as I can only pick out a word here and there.. A PDF copy on the other hand (and yes I was excited to see Holzwerken can at times be available in that format) i can run through the web translator and hey I'm not just looking at the pictures anymore  :)

Guido,

Thank you for your answer. I am looking forward to buying the next two issues. I do not speak German but find that your drawings and pictures are very good at describing the process. With some luck, this can become a long distance project with my brother who is discovering the joy of woodworking and the costly delight of Festools.

He lives in Alaska and I in Oregon, this could become very interesting.

I ordered the two (2) issues (#37 &#38) from Nicole Liedke  nicole.liedke@vincentz.net  -- The price is 8.90 euros ($11.67 U.S.) each with no additional shipping charge.  She offers to send the current issue now and/or ship them both together when the next issue is out on December 18.

Wow! Except for the moveability, that is one true MFT! I just wish I had room for one...

That is awesome!!  It will solve some of the issues I currently have with the MFT and give me a place to build in my router table.  Last spring I built a Roubo, which is great but I see a real need for one of these too!!!

Since I have such a small shop Guido's design really appeals to me also -- I built a great router table but it's footprint could be replaced with Guido's idea -- if he throws a table saw into the unit I'll be selling some items...  [unsure]

Cool video! I missed this the first time around. Anyone know who makes these clamps?

... Or make two qwas bench-dog-matching holes in the machineplates to quickly 'lock' the two parts together

I am going to build a modified version of this bench. I had been planning something similar for a while and this gave me a whole heap more ideas.

One question though - what mechanism do they use to raise the router above table? its a Festool he's using and I am planning on putting my OF2200 in, I'd love to know how they set that up with the Incra plate

I've got the 2 magazines and its the plain Incra Magnalock Plate (plus you can see in the video where he puts the wrench in in in a different spot to the JessEm)....he's done something to create the lift. I'm guessing he uses the parts that come with the CMS module?

He used several Lee Valley clamps and hold downs. They are advertised as being for .750 holes. So does the MFT like bench use .75 holes or do those items work well in both .750 in and 20 mm holes?

Very nice workbench and I did ordered and just received a two magazines (37 and 38). Just one week after I did a place an order - very quick !!!
Now I am asking my friend if anybody read in German, so far no luck.
If anybody got a magazine, did you use any online translation program? And how did you do it - scan, convert to text file and copy paste in the program?

Thank you, Ed.

I've played with the Lee Valley stuff on a MFT at Lee Valley's main store. The 3/4 inch dogs etc are a sloppy fit for 20 mm holes, usable, but not neat enough for my taste.

I bought both issues of the magazine and am planning to start my build after the holidays.  Any chance anyone has translated to English and would be willing to share the translation?  And like I said, I DID buy the magazines so I am not trying to welch out on supporting the designer/publisher of this awesome bench design.  I you are willing to share the translation, please email to jamesbreed@gmail.com.  Thanks, Jim
