I have tossed around the idea of building a hall tree for about 6 months or so and finally finished it yesterday.

THE DETAILS
- 3/4" mdf plywood
-5/8" pine tongue and groove panels
-3' wide x 6' high
- pocket holed and glued together for joining the wood
-15 hours from start to finish

after doing extensive research on what water base primer to use for mdf I came across kilz max water base primer. And used CIL melamine top coat 3 and then 6 coats of Polyurethane. 600 wet sand In between coats last pick is a close up of the edge of the mdf primed an painted

I like the rustic modern look of it. Great job!

One little piece of advice...  Next time prime the MDF with some Zinsser BIN Shellac paint. The stuff won't swell up the ends of MDF and dries in 10 minutes and sands to powder.

I use the stuff a lot and love it!

Cheers. Bryan.

The kilz primer is like an oil primer but is water based the edges didn't swell which I was shocked an it's really thin 2 coats on everything and it was ready for paint
