Hammer Bandsaw?

Rick,

If so are you pleased with it
Richard.

I do an yes am very pleased with it. Main thing to note is that the saw if you get the 240v 2 phase version pulls quite a start up current (20A) so you need to have a good circuit, and a special type of circuit breaker that will hold a little longer without tripping when the motor first starts. I resaw 200mm walnut without problems... re-sawing was the main reason I got the bandsaw.

It takes a bit of time to set-up, factory alignment isn't brilliant, and to be honest, whilst the fence is very solid, there drift alignment isn't that easy, you have to do it by aligning the round bar that the fence connects to, the fence itself has not adjustability. I wonder why manufacturers don't make it possible to rotate the whole table, at least then the groove in th table for the mitre square could also compensate for any drift

Thanks for the info.  It is just the round bar fence attachment that I wanted to miss on the FB 600 that I can' have because i haven't got three phase.
Richard

Sorry I don't quite understand what you mean re the round bar. The FB 600 has pretty much the same fence, execpt it runs on a rectangular bar. You can get a good Kregg fence if you are not happy with the N4400, on the Hammer its just fixed by 2 bolts

The Hammer A3 31 Combo Planer / Jointer is a great machine and I am very proud to own one. Wouldn't trade it in for the world unless you were going to throw a Felder AD 741 my way  ;)
I'm seriously putting down a deposit for an A3-31.  I took the dimensions and cannot believe that it is shallower and shorter than my cheap POS 6" jointer.  It is wider, but most of that is due to the longer bed.  In my shop, space is at a premium.

My wife told me I should get the sliding table saw  [drooling] first as they are arguably safer, but at $10000 Canadian, I don't think I can bring myself to take her up on that offer.

Nuggy,

You are a fortunate man indeed to have so understanding a spouse.

Despite some of my nasty comments about her I have made here in jest, I love her deeply.  We have known each other since we were 3 and have been married 43 years.  I ordered a 5 meter hose and when they called to say it was in she went ballistic.  It did blow over pretty quickly.

I recently bought a Minimax E-16 on ebay.  I knew I couldn't sneak it in the house - I have to pick it up while we are visiting family 1,800 miles away.  "Oh that big white thing in the back of the Durango?  It's been there for months!"  LOL!  [eek]  Wouldn't work this time.

I showed it to her and told her what it would cost new and she thought I should bid on it.  Of cousre, she really liked the ETS150/5 and CT Midi I bought her for Christmas last year, too.  [big grin]

The fence on the Hammer rides along a round bar.  On the FB600 it slots onto an F section rail.  Just a personal prejudice probably as my Felder combo machine has the F rail already.

Richard.

For folks are interested in the hammer bandsaw. Geoff the salesperson I have been dealing with has sent me pictures of the new version - that includes a foot brake, 12 inches resaw, 45deg etc. Looks real nice. I may make it to the delware event on the 23rd to see it in person.

Can you post the pitcures?

Since we have no idea where you are, is this a US version or a Euro version?  Don't know but maybe you are crossing the Atlantic to the Delaware event.

Sorry for slow reply Richard.  The short answer is no, I don't have one. YET.

Slightly longer answer...had a baby in the meantime, and suddenly plans for more expensive toys like this had to be lowered somewhat on the priority list, apparently. I don't understand either, but my beloved wife assures me that it's easier if I don't think too much, and do largely as I'm told.

Rick,

Rick,

In looking at Daisy, you know the sacrifices are all worthwhile.  Besides, just wait until she gets old enough. Her and the other kids will provide you with additional to-do lists.

I just got one from my Grandson last night.  Plywood pumpkins to decorate their front yard for Halloween.  We made grave stones last year. At least they lasted until this year.  Now it's of to buy plywood and orange paint.

- Tilting to 22.5 degree with scale readout
- Tilting to 45 degree without the scale readout
- Limit switch on the door
- Doors need to be opened with a key due to new regulations
- Top and bottom guides
- Drift adjustment can be done by adjusting the rail the fence would mount on, if required.

I like this hobby but not enough to try to check in 500# bandsaw at the airport :)  I am in New Jersey. this is the US version I assume since it is being demoed in Delaware.

It's good to see that Felder is starting to advertise its bandsaw line more.  In the past you could not get much information on them and they seemed to take a back seat to other machine offerings.  I have a Laguna, but if I were in the market I would seriously consider a Hammer or Felder BS - quality machines.  I believe the new Felder 600 is built in Austria and not an ACM saw as is the case with some of their other lines.  It is nice to see that the Hammer as 12 inch resaw now -- in the past it was just under 11 inches which seemed to be a little on the short side -- while I have not resawed many 12 inch boards, I have done it and it is nice to have the flexibility.  Regardless of the bandsaw, I think that the Laguna DriftMaster Fence is a must-have accessory -- it is a dream to adjust for drift properly and it is super accurate when making veneers.
