Hi fellow Festool owners.

I have been thinking about making a version of the hand tool insert for a Systainer for a while. To house my rough site tools.
Decided to go for a sys 5 to enable me to get my hammer and larger chisels in.
I thought about buying the Festool one but I could tell it was not going to be right and would need adjustment.

As I found some inspiration on this forum I thought I would post some pictures of my attempt to perhaps help someone else.

[attachimg=#]
I made a plywood base that fitted snuggly inside the base and then made the chisel holder bit and the screwdriver rack bit.

[attachimg=#]
Then worked out how to fit the rest in.

[attachimg=#]
It was a slow process with a lot of head scratching.

[attachimg=#]
I found I could fit quite a lot in.

Now I have made this one, I think I could re-make it with less separate bits of plywood but it was a sort of thinking out loud process.

[attachimg=#]

It turned out quite heavy so I turned a solid oak handle to make sure it was up to the job. (only my second decent turning, other was rolling pin !! the lathe scares me much more than my spindle moulder )

I am making another for my MFT accessories and one more for demolition/ really rough kit.

I hope these pictures are useful to someone.

Thanks

Ollie

Hi Ollie,

    Welcome to the forum  [smile] !

Very nice. That's a slick way to fit the hammer.  [thumbs up]

Seth

Very nicely executed!!!  Just out of curiosity, what do you use the scales for?

[smile]

Seth beat me to it - welcome to the FOG and love it.  I have been wanting to build something similar for quite a while.  Maybe now ith your inspiration.

Loved to see you Estwing hammer in the images.  It caught my eye and after doing some surfing I now know that there is an English pattern - whatever that means.

Here are two images.  The first is the UK version, the second is a US version.  Interesting to me.

Too funny. I got an email from a mate this morning saying that there was a good deal on amazon for an Eastwing. I ordered one earlier this morning an E20S. Great deal at under $30 bucks!

That's weird as the second one looks more like an English style claw hammer. We don't tend to see many like the first shot here. It's the head shape. Mine is the blue vinyl grip I would never have a leather handled one.

Hi everyone

Thanks for the nice comments.

I had no idea there was another pattern of head on those Estwing hammers. Oddly I have a Stanley hammer with a head more similar to the American pattern in your picture.

As for the scales. I restore sliding sash windows often upgrading them to double glazing in the original sashes (or I make replicas) . Anyway that is why I need the scales, to balance the sashes with lead weights.

I will post some pictures of my other Festool boxes once I have had time to do them.

Cheers.

Re hammer head design

Design of head depends on its weight, i think mine is well over 20oz and has the design of the upper image.
Some of my mates have the lower design and are much lighter

That makes sense.  Thanks for the fill-in.

Wow, I love it. I just might need to borrow an idea or two from this.  Thanks for sharing!

Personally, I'm kinda disappointed you didn't find a way to fit a few more tools in there.  [poke]

Hi

Colonel panic, I almost did do a sketchup model but I realised I would have to do a sketchup model for every tool as well !!  which I would do if I had infinite time.
In the end I found it better to just go analogue. I just measured the base between the lumpy bits in the systainer and then cut a bit of ply to fit. Then started building it up from the base around the tools.

First, welcome! Second, very nice job of fitting all of that in there.

Did you use a Domino to make the chisel slots?

Cool

I know what you went through .mine took me about a year of tinkering (pictures are on this same page)trying to decide what to put in it as well ...wish I had made some templates as a lot of people have asked me to make them one

Does anyone use the festool one didn't look right for my tools
