hand truck options

The first one of $109 looks not too strong, but the other three seem pretty sturdy to me, especially the last one. 500 lbs is a lot to carry. My cart is rated at a 'mere' 300 lbs.
Tried to find out more about that last one, the RWM Casters FW-90L, and the specs and photos of the FW-90L differ between handtrucksrus, RWM Casters and Amazon.

The one on Amazon is a different one. The one on RWM has the same model number but a different picture. Perhaps an earlier/later model?

Anyway, 440 lbs or 500 lbs makes no difference. That is A LOT. Even if the cart can hold it, you won't. Sometimes when I really load my cart up it's still around a maximum of 70 kilos/ 155 lbs and you get real tired after walking a couple of hundred feet with that.

Don't assume that 500 pounds on a 500 pound rated cart is going to work out well. If you are talking about taller loads and anything other than smooth level interior floors, etc. I would divide the rating by 3 or 4 for a comfortable load to be used daily. Even on a smooth level floor, I would keep it to half the rated capacity for daily use.

Ever try a 450 pound appliance on a 1200 pound rated appliance dolly? I put a 600 pound load on a 1200 pound dolly recently and two of us moved it outside ready for the cart to break. I guess 1200 Chinese pounds weigh less than our pounds. Or maybe the expected life is measured in minutes.

As someone who was in the household moving business for a few years, an poor two wheeler is a constant source of irritation. Try to get a good one.

One of the bigger problems is height. Too low and it is harder to control and wears on your back. Of the ones you linked to, the last one at the 500 pound cap looked better.

Try to find someplace where you can look at them or at least send it back if it doesn't work. The site you linked to has a 20-25% restocking fee.

it looks like the picture on rwmcasters.com is wrong. notice how it is the same as the FW-90B directly above it...  also notice how the description on rwmcasters.com for the FW-90L says "The handle system allows for two comfortable hand positions when moving items." which is clearly not depicted in their photo.

it also appears that the 440lb rating shown on amazon.com and rwmcasters.com is probably correct and the 50lb rating shown on handtrucksrus.com is probably wrong.

much better pricing on amazon

Alex, i agree about the first two, the third and fourth are obviously more well built

Greg, i hear you loud and clear.  and no i never plan to have 500lbs of anything on it. i guess more of a idea that the higher the weight capacity the more durable, sturdy and stable it will be for lighter loads

rvieceli, thanks for sharing your valuable experiance.. obviously you know a thing or two (hundred) about hand trucks.  i completly agree with your opinion about the last one produced by RWM Casters with the 440/500 lb rating    good catch about the restocking fee!  as atlr posted, the same cart can be had on amazon for $137 with free shipping and free returns

going for a hand truck (over sys roll) with a much higher load rating makes so much more sense to me because it can not only transport systainers but heavy and bulky building materials, and trash cans full of jobsite/shop debris

I have been thinking about getting this model  http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200586484_200586484?cm_mmc=Housefile-_-ANNIV2_____130516-_-conphone_130516-_-P17&cm_lm=gardeski@juno.com&STATE=NY&HOT_MEM_CODE=HE&MARKETCODE=%%MARKETCODE%  currently on sale at Northern Tool It looks sturdy and is rated for 600 pounds but I doubt it would last long at that weight. It has a locking bar to hold your foot against while tipping. The only negative is the handle does not telescope so if you don,t have room to store it at its full height it won't work

Ive been using one of these that was my dads he bought in the 60's or early 70s' when he had a vending machine business. they are indestrucatble and the big rubber wheels move on grass and up stairs really well.

the one below  only gets brought out for the big jobs, also similar vintage.

hey Don,

i did come across that one in my searches.  It definitely looks strong enough and is at a much better price point.  With the limited space i have in my trailer i didnt like how it doesnt telescope and also how the wheels stick out so far.    if those are a non issue for you i would say that one is a gold mine!

if you pick it up let me know how it turns out

wow, around 50 years and still going strong!!  that's a testament to buying quality stuff.   no only if we could figure out a way to get that thing to fold up to 3" thick and keep its strength.. then we would be takling

i currently have this one  http://www.milwaukeehandtrucks.com/details.php?model=60138    which is a beast and takes up a ton of space in my trailer.   im looking for something much lighter and smaller to wheel systainers, tool cases and some small materials  around my jobs

do you use the dolly to move toolboxes/systainers around?   how does it work for you?

it works really well over rough ground and stairs. I cant really speak to how well it holds systainers, since I only have a few and most of the tools are pretty light. mostly what I use it on a jobsite for is the compressor. For various reasons I try to avoid bringing too many tool boxes onto a jobsite. I do use it in the shop fairly often moving machinery that doesn't work well on mobile bases.

I saw  this one http://www.amazon.com/Magliner-Folding-Aluminum-Truck-Capacity/dp/B001C1XEHM/ref=sr_1_19?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1368813709&sr=1-19  but I dont like the smaller solid wheels.  Funny thing i went over to see my dad this morning, at the put and take he brought home the non folding version of this.

Only just stumbled on this hand truck thread

I think the best hand truck in the world is the expresso. It is a German top quality product.  It has supurb driving characteristics and is perfectly balanced. A really well thought trough product. Top off the bill. It’s not expensive but it takes a lot of money.to get one.

Site expresso: (english)

They also have an exelent folding hand truck: see:
Hand trucks catalogue: (English):
www.expresso.de/media/_laender/pdf/en-gb/product-catalogs/Competence_Catalogue.pdf

I mostly use the expresso favorite for transporting tools and supplies from and to the van. It stacks my systainers and 30 x 40 mm rako boxes perfectly. I also use it for transport of my CS70

For transport you want the handtruck to be strong, with lots of stabillity, and big enough. With serious wheels.

You don’t want that in your van. That’s why we set out to develope an accesory to hang the truck on the outside of the van.
Just like a transportable forklift. In this case mounted on the tow-ball.

I’ve got the handtruck on the back of my van ever since 2005. I use it daily.

I used to have a cheap folding hand truck until I got the Bosch L-CART made by Sortimo
Like it much better.
Feels really solid and can hold 275lbs
Got it for $99 on amazon

That Expresso electric stair climber is cool!

Seems like no USA availability.
