Hi I wanted to share another project with this fine community. It is a commission piece I did for a client in the Oakland hills in the San Francisco Bay Area where I live. The entire piece is built using my domino 500, and is constructed from 5/4 Poplar (the legs are 5/4 pieces laminated together). I wanted to do something besides just a boring old flat top so I added a little flavor as you can see. The finish schedule is 1 coat of Charles Neil's blotch control, then 2 coats of General Finishes Java gel, and topped with 3 coats of arm-r-seal. I love how it came out and so did the client. My only regret is that my camera was in the shop so all pics are with iPhone. Sorry about that.[attachimg=1][attachimg=2][attachimg=3][attachimg=4]

Simple yet elegant.

Thank you for letting us enjoy it with you.

Nice design and execution. I particularly like the lower shelf...

Very much my taste in design!  Looks lovely.  I wonder how it would look if the base of the legs had some blocking around them?  I guess i'll have to build one and find out! [wink]

Thanks for the input guys! ivanhoe yes I attached with dominoes. 8@ 10x50mm. Paul g I selected poplar because the customer was on a budget but I wanted something that will last and my supplier had some for 1.60 pr bf in 5/4 so I grabbed it. staining was not an issue I used charles neil blotch control.

Never tried blotch control, might come in handy

Good looking table. The finish came out great. I used the blotch control on a maple picture frame with good results.

Yeah if anybody is thinking about maybe trying the blotch control (CN) it's worth a look. I've used shellac for years but this stuff works great. I'll be ordering more.

Very nice. Looks great in that living room! I never think of using poplar for finished work........  I think I should start considering it.  [thumbs up]

Deep creek I did the grooves before. That way I just ran a chanfer bit around all the pieces and when put together they would make a nice detail. I took special care to fully sand the end grain so there was absolutely no evidence of a line so as to make it look like they may have been added later.
