I have a thinner version earmuffs, Peltor H6A\V Optime.  I find them slim, light weight and they provide plenty of protection for power tool use.  I have a set of the Peltor Tactical muffs.  They aren't noise canceling, they amplify ambient sound but cut out the loud sounds.  You might want a set of these if you work around other people in the shop and need to communicate.

The tactical muffs will work well for loud bangs, but don't do as well for constant noise.  They are primarily designed for shooting, and work well for that.

Tactical muffs work well when one needs to hear low-level sounds around them while attenuating sudden, short-duration loud sounds like gunfire, but don't do much for tool-type noise which is more like ambient noise (as Steve mentioned).  Don't confuse tactical muffs with noise-cancelling muffs that block long-duration loud noise such as tool-related noise by making their own sounds 180° out of phase with the ambient noise.

I always listen to the radio in the workshop or on site, since i bought these Bilsom ear muffs with built in radio my time in the workshop has been so much more enjoyable. Makes work allot less boring and you don't have to miss out on music or progams you follow.
Been using those for over two years, i use rechargeable batteries and they last several weeks when you use it 5-6 hours a day.
Reception is also surprisingly good, i have to hang my workshop radio in awkward places to get good reception while these ear muffs always receive well anywhere.
And most importantly, they don't hurt when you wear them for long times, all the ones i had before would become very painful and sweaty after an hour.
If i broke it today i would order another set straight away, but they made many falls, been in the rain or left freezing and they keep on working.

I have been using SenGard Hearing Protection now for about a year, I have both the 26 and 31 decible versions. I use the 31 only when using my 5 hp Shaper table when making raised panel doors.

They are very effective for me in noise cancellation

Yea, very interesting, that's the kind of thing I've been wanting especially at the range. Shooting muffs typically just cut off the mic, this one reduces the sounds to the safe level and you can still hear.

I have two Peltor models. One is the Optime I which is light and the other is with a built-in radio (model nr. HRXS7A-01). Although the radio-model is slightly heavier I tend to use this the most. It's a comfy fit and reduces noise better.

The muffs i use are like the ones clear at top of page.  I have not seen the ones that Brice uses, but would grab a set if i spot.
I never used any hearing protection until i got into yard work. Backhoes and tractors never seemed to bother me >>> I thought.
now, I have to wear the muffs so I don't deafen anybody around me.  The crickets and cicadas never seem to leave me.
At least the bugs i hear don't eat the bushes i take care of.  ::)
