Hello from NJ

I know that Avalanche effect far too well.  It's commonplace in various hobbies of mine.  Somehow I was able to dodge the bullet when David brought in Surefire & Fenix lights about 2 years ago.  Dave sure did not dodge the Avalanche.  I'm the guy prodding down into the snow with an 11' foot pole, screaming his name with a German Shepard at my side!  He's way under.

Sean, have you ever held a REALLY nice fly reel? Talk about getting buried alive...

I also developed a fascination with machinists tools, even before I got my first mini-mill and started playing with it. Starrett tools in particular caught my interest, they are just so pretty and come in those nice red boxes and are all over on craigslist and eBay.

Anyway, I am still trying to figure out what the heck my Universal Precision Gage is good for, other than being assembled, disassembled and generally fondled late at night. At least I know how to use the fly reel. Kinda, anyway.

Coach, welcome to the FOG. While I don't officially "collect" knives I have a couple dozen, including a well-worn Western sheath knife that I got in cub scouts, I totally understand the fascination, and rarely leave the house without one on my person.

Now, those lights are really intriguing...

Woof, don't tempt me.  That picture is pretty damn powerful.  Beautiful looking stuff there.

...ya, thanks for the reminder [wink]...fish don't care though...they still break off on a cheapo reel or a nice one, that is if you can get them on the hook...still there are some beautiful reels out there.

I'm also from NJ and escaped (mostly) from the Candlepower forum.

It's been a few years since I've been to a flashlight meetup in NJ.
For those who have never attended one, you might (rightfully) think it very strange that groups of people enjoy getting together and pointing flashlights at ceilings or across a wide expanse of grass.

Seeing coach's photos brings me a smile.  I originally set up my shop to do knifemaking, then thought a small lathe and mill would be good for flashlight making.
I wound up making neither

I started setting up my little basement shop for general woodworking, and started acquiring Festool gear.

Then I fell head first into the woodturning vortex.  I see no way out.  My wife got sucked in too...

Coach, I'm near Paramus, if you feel like a social visit.
Now if Festool made a lathe.......
