Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe during this truly bizarre time.  I'm new to the world of woodworking overall, but I am pretty handy with DIY Home Repairs etc. I have built out / finished the basement in my previous home including framing, insulation, drywall, subfloor, flooring, plumbing, cabinetry etc.  (Lots of lessons learned - and will probably never attempt to do something that large in scale again)

I am interested in woodworking as a hobby only (mostly on some weekends, or when the need arises to step back from a pretty hectic career + personal life and use it as a means to decompress)  Something about building an item with your hands from scratch is definitely therapeutic.

I discovered the Festool brand while surfing in various blogs / forums for woodworking project ideas and numerous YouTube videos.  After doing  a couple of months of research, I'm convinced Festool and I will be a good match moving forward - especially now that I've  found this group.

Looking forward to all of the wonderful advice as I take the plunge into the world of Festool Ownership.  I'll follow up this post with another one asking for advice on initial tool purchases.  For now, I wanted to say "Hello" and "I'm glad I found you all"

Cheers  :)

Welcome to the forum. Look forward to seeing your posts.  [smile]

[member=72886]ibluetooth[/member]  - Congratulations on the discovery of the FOG and WELCOME!

Engaging and posting on a wide range of topics will help you get to know members by their skill level and expertise. This allows you to attach value to the opinions you're reading and get really useful information and help.

Your tool choices: more experienced woodworkers than myself advise buying the tools as you see the need for them rather than loading up all at once.

One more tip: FESTOOL offers for download "SUPPLEMENTAL MANUALS" on a number of power tools you will likely be buying.

Download them, print them in colors and spiral bind them for easy use in the shop. Read them cover to cover once to let you know that there is some thing the Manual talks about that . . . when the need arises.

The other counsel, based on many phone conversations with our customers over the years: practice with any  new tool and learn from beginner mistakes on a learning project before going live.

go for it !

Hans
