Hello all !!
I have some work ahead of me building with pre-finished maple plywood & mdf. I have the little iron and misc tools to work with but, there has to be a faster & easier way.
I saw a table top machine on a you tube somewhere but i cant find it again.

What are your thoughts?? Do you use one??How is it?
Please help me -  I need one ASAP.
Thank you
Marc

I've never used one either, (thank god) but I'm a huge fan of Felder machines. I'ts a get what you pay for thing...

Hi

I have a bench top edgebander similar to the rockler one but made by JET.
I have run thousands of meters through it. Quick simple and easy. You still have to trim by hand but with the simple double edged hand trimmers you can get and the end trimmers . Its no big deal

I have the Frued shown at Rockler.  It's a neat little machine, well worth the price for field work, or if you're not running hundreds of feet per day in shop.  A couple of thoughts, though:

1. It took me a little while to get the hang of proper feed rates, heat settings, etc.  I'd suggest on planning to run a few practice boards through prior to using good stock.

2. The table is a bit small, anything wider than 12 inches, and you will want to assemble some additional support, both in-feed and out feed.

3. Watch the banding as it approaches the board.  It can tend to feed high or low, and a bit of height adjustment as you feed the board will be necessary.  It's pretty intuitive, just practice.  I've ripped off lots of banding to redo the work, usually because I wasn't attentive.

I also have the Freud for about 15 years now.  Very frustrating at first as the edgebanding tended to ride up on the ply.  I found the problem was the pressure roller was not perpendicular to the table.  A rubber mallet fixed that and has worked fine ever since.  You may also consider the Virutex handheld version.  It is a bit more expensive than the Freud and Rockler but will do curved edges if that is a must for you.
