help new carvex potential issue

I had a lot of trouble trying to cut some 1m60 circles with the Carvex so I sent it back. I'm still waiting to get it back, but yesterday had to cut a small 36cm diameter circle for a client who called in so got out the old PS 300.  Total disaster, sparks, burning wood etc - so I got out my old Bosch - cut the circle no problem. I would love to know what is going on.

Rule of thump for all Jigsaws with a long blade mounting: (distance between blade insert and Jigsaw table)

    --> IT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS HAVE A SAWBLADE WHICH IS LONG ENAUGH = ALWAYS PROTRUDING YOUR MATERIAL !

The regular TRION Blades work just fine with curve cutting, but consider a 105mm blade, when cutting more than 35mm material, the 75mm is not long enaugh.
To find out, just hold your work piece under the jigsaw when the saw blade is in the upper (rest) position

    --> If you dont see the saw blade protruding - DONT USE THIS SAW BLADE - TAKE THE NEXT LENGTH LONGER

This problem applies to all Jigsaws when using pendulum action.. as the saw blade would push against the material not already sawn, when the blade is to short -

    --> THIS CREATES A PUSH BACK ACTION OF THE SAW BLADE AGAINST YOUR WORK PIECE -
    --> THUS PUSHING THE SAW TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT- LIFTING AND BURNING THE SAW BLADE

If you are having problems and its a first batch jigsaw. Its more than just the spring thats at fault. Send it back to the wonderful TTS uk.

Wood guy,
Festool France told me there was some kind of fault in the pendulum mechanism of the early ones. I think he said something about it being welded on out of line. He said to send it in. If you can be without it (and I assume you have another jigsaw) I would send it in - even if after sales 'service' isn't in the UK

i have just ordered a new carvex jigsaw from direct brand tools uk i had a call today to say is it ok if we send the carvex with the old type systainer not thinking i said yes i am now wondering if they are going to send me the version of the carvex before it was modded to fix all the issues people have had

you can verify yourself, if your Carvex is an older prduction model, which may have to be reworked.
Just verify the Die Casting Marks on the Standard base suplied with your Carvex. You can find them right under the surface which is normally hidden by the machine body (see picture)

Have used the saw for a couple of weeks and have noticed that if you need to trim 2/3 mm the blade does not cut true.

Make sure you read the following rule of thumb for the Carvex and then proceed accordingly..
Please mind, the Carvex is different to most other Jigsaws, as the mounting of the saw blade is cutting off about 45mm of your saw blade length leaving a S75 Trion blade with about 28mm cutting depth..
below is also a picture which shows this feature.. The good thing about it, the cut speed is amazing - straigth or in curves - the cut quality is outstanding.

Hi mike thank you for your note but with respect I have been working with jigsaws for more than 26 years. All I was asking was am I going to have problems due to the date that is stamped on the base and if so shall I return for a new one.

Hi Tom,

Dont get me wrong, as i'm also an experienced Jigsaw user -  but had to learn this lesson..
Maybe i should have mentioned why i answered this way.. cause unless you are using an apropriate length of the saw blade, you might get the impression your Carvex is not working well..
...
with the Carvex and shorter saw blades i got the same uneven cuts with bad angles in it..
burned quite some blades .. and then sent the Carvex back to festool ..  they told me the saw is fine and i should use a longer (105mm) blade - they sent back the saw and provided a sample 105mm Trion saw blade  which i then used with great results..
...
before i was using an old Bosch GST85 using short 55mm fine blades for kitchen countertops (38mm)  - but now with the Carvex, i have to use 105mm Saw blades to get good results..  better
but the good message is, the cut quality is much better and the service life of the blade has increased - now i can use the standard saw blade with max pendulum action where i had to use fine saw blades with low pendulum action with my Bosch - and the quality is still better with the Carvex, not to mention the perfect Dust exctraction
...
In my videos on youtube, (in the review section) i showed how i cut a perfect 180 degree curve with 90 degree angle.

That is what is so odd. The saw actually caused more sparks and burning with these blade that I bought specially than with some other gold coloured (sorry can't remember the ref) blades that I tried and ended up using. I was able to cut the ten 1m60 circles in 19mm MDF reasonably well and didn't have to use a router to clean up, so the time I saved went a fair way to paying for the Carvex  (which I am still waiting to get back ) but I was still disappointed. My Bosch is still the jigsaw I grab first.

Hi Mike thank you for your advice on the 105 blades which I will try out later. From one of your other posts you talk about the date that is stamped on the base. The date that is on this one I have is 05/10, do you think I may have problems with it as I see you have said to others to return it for one with 06/10 on it?
