This is the first time I'm using veneer.  How do I get the veneer flat?  It is very wavy.  Also what is the best glue to use?

Is the veneer paper-backed? Probably not if it's wavy, right? If so, you can spritz it with water prior to glueing it. This will soften it up, and make sure you use cauls above and below the veneer. If the veneer is particularly troublesome, go for more cauls.

As for glues, I like white glue. Not everyone's first choice I know, and once I did not use enough on a paper-backed veneer and I had problems a few months down the line, but if your substrate is stable and you use sufficient glue you shouldn't have creeping issues. Most people will tell you a urea resin glue is the best, but I get along fine with PVA glues and given their ease of use and lower toxicity, I prefer them.

Tom can you do multiple sheets at one time or do I need to make multiple presses

I had two panels in the bench. Seperated them with wax paper. Using the bench was an ephiany, I had to press those and had no clue how I was going to do, then the LED went off in my head.

You can also use fiberglass window screen and newsprint between multiple layers.  The screen keeps the newsprint from sticking.  There is a veneer forum that I visit every once in awhile at vacupress.com where you can also do research.

Paul Marcel has also done some flattening I believe.  Paul Marce'ls Blog

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  I have some reading to do.
