Another visit to the Festool showroom on spring sale day and another new task to learn... I just went to get a few cheap T-loc systainers and a free sandwich and whadda-ya-know...

Out I walk with a shiny new Shinex RAP 150 FE-Set Automotive

So I guess I'll have to learn how to polish my 1969 VW Beetle to a shine never seen before  [cool]

That's beffudling ... I thought you were on the hunt for a RO150 (a great polisher in it's own right and used by many Oz car detailers) ???

Well, they had a couple of these RAP Sets on sale for 400€ a piece and no discounts on Rotexes and I had read somewhere that one should not use a sander for polishing due to contamination of wood dust left in the sander possibly ruining the polish so I figured I might as well buy a specialized tool for polishing, save the 250€ over a RO150, get a maxi-systainer full of polishing pads, liquids and other consumables to boot.  And ofcourse if my sanding needs end up requiring a large rotex over my ETS150/3, then I can get one when I need it for that.  [tongue] [cool]

Now I just need to figure how to use machinery for polishing since I've always waxed and polished my cars by hand... I think there was a super extensive thread about car polishing either here or maybe on TalkFestool forum that I need to revisit. At the time when I read through it it felt like a very involved process, but maybe it'll become clear with a rereading.
My wife is generous enough to 'let me use' her Peugeot as a testing ground for washing, waxing and polishing  [poke]

Fair enough - good call on contamination I suppose ... I'd imagine the guys here that use a ROTEX professionally for polishing don't switch between sanding wood, then off to a Ferrari !

That does look like a nice kit - I haven't seen it locally ... hmmmm  [wink]

(I bought a polisher a while back and haven't taken it out of the box - pre Festool addiction, I may take it out of the box for an Ebay photo!)

I believe that the thread you are looking for was done by Dan Clark.  You might want to search using polishing by member Dan Clark.

Another site you might want to visit just for informational purposes that could be used across all brands is griotsgarage.com.  they have a whole section of videos.  Of course these videos feature their products, but any techniques shown might be helpful.

Disclaimer:  I have purchased a LOT of Griot's products a few years ago.  They are great IMHO.  My vehicles are now neglected and filthy.  I am ashamed.
