Heresy....

Hi -

Got to use my RO90 for the first time this weekend....both kids were moving, and after humping furniture and boxes Friday and Sat had some time to take a stab at refinishing my a coffee table of my Son's that was in pretty tough shape.

The heresy part - it was an Ikea table. I figured that refinishing a veneered pine piece would be a good way to practise with a new sander....

Of course - it worked fabulously! I started off with 220 granat, to ensure I wouldn't inadvertently work through the veneer - but after about 20 minutes, felt confident enough in using the tool that I could safely go to 80 grit for most of the stripping. Best of all - no dust mask...  I am sensitized to wood dust, and always wear a mask.
The only "negative" I could find is that I found the dust extractor hose had a tendency to catch a bit on the edge of the MFT.... creating a bit of drag at odd times. Guess there's a boom arm in my future!

No pics - I don't have the nerve to post pictures of myself refinishing termite-barf furniture for posterity !!  ;D

Cheers -

Rob

Sean.... Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I have been looking for a solution like that for a long time.  [thumbs up]

Boom Arm ??

Anyway - great to see the "dog food" thing happening  [big grin]

Ha!  Sounds good Rob.  We're here all day.

Hey Rob

While your ordering from Sean, why don't you get him too ship a couple hundred so you can help out all your Canadian customers.  [big grin]
Just a thought.

Hi Sean,

Is the gorilla sleeve large/stretchy enough that I can thread the power cord inside with the hose as well?

Thanks!

James

I have a question about the Gorilla sleeve, It says

Be sure to order approximately 14' to cover the entire length of your 11' standard Festool Dust Extractor Hose.

If I put 14 in the quantity, do I get 1 x 14' length or 14 x 1' lengths?

I was assuming 1 x 14'  but then I had a closer look at the pictures and developed some doubts,  ;D

thnx

Yeah, I know. Only....

(A) I like to stow my CT under my MFT. Also...

(B) I'm cheap. And even if I weren't....

(C) I don't think it works with the Mini.

But yeah. I know.  [big grin]

+1 to this, I haven't found a Canadian dealer for the Gorilla sleeve.  Please bring it, and we will come...

Word of warning on the Gorilla Sleeve, it's length shrinks when expanded to cover the hose/cord. I ordered 11' and it covered about 7' (+/-) of 27mm hose with the cord tucked into it.

Flip side is it works fabulously!

Good info RMW.  Another tid bit, when sneaking your cord in their with the hose, tuck the ends of the cord into the open ends of the dust extraction hose so you can slide the sleeve over the two together.  That was a great tip from the original tech flex gorilla sleeve thread in the sales & dealer area.  I think from last year.  I forget whom brought it up though.
