Hitachi C12LSH

Scott ,
I haven't used one of these scms but I was considering it but I read a lot of reviews about it and I must say many were unfavourable. Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply Colin,

I've seen some good & some bad...
That's why I hoped to get it "straight from a users mouth" so to speak.
But it doesn't appear that anyone here has one.

BTW, my son's name is Colin W.  :)

Hi Scott! I don't own one, but one of my coworkers does and I got to use it for a week or so a few years ago. All told, I'd say that it's a nice saw, but I'm also going to say that there are nicer saws out there. I can't remember much about blade deflection, etc. Here's what I remember:

--- The digital display wasn't too handy for miter cuts, since it only displays to .5 degrees (my recollection, correct me if I'm wrong), and you can eyeball .25 degree increments.

--- The digital display WAS handy for bevel cuts. If I remember correctly, the bevel scale was quite small, so the digital display, accurate to .5 degrees, was quite handy.

--- The knob to loosen the bevel adjustment was a pain. Since the rear of the saw is stationary, you have to reach all the way around the back of that huge casting to reach the knob, which became quite obnoxious after a few adjustments, and uncomfortable a few adjustments later.

--- This saw only bevels to 45 degrees. If you anticipate needing more capacity I'd recommend a saw like the Bosch that will bevel to 47 degrees.

--- This is a HEAVY, AWKWARD saw to move around, though it sounds like you will have it set up in a shop, so that shouldn't be an issue.....

These are just some of my initial memories. Overall, there's nothing really "wrong" with it, I just think that there may be better options out there, such as the Bosch, Makita, Festool, or even the Ridgid. I hope this helps!

Hi Scott! I certainly don't mean to talk you out of buying the Hitachi, I'd just make sure to check out the others as well. Ideally, I'd call my local contractor supply outfit and see if they have any demo days coming up where you could actually make some cuts with each saw so you can really get a feel for each one. Good luck with your hunt, please post back when you've made a selection!  :)

Tom,

No worries, you haven't talked me out of anything,  I'm still in the research phase.

Thanks

Scott,
I ended up buying a 10 in makita LS 1013 F which was square when i received it and has stayed this way after being transported around from job to job another plus was it came with a decent blade. love the light that comes with it

I know it's heavy, but it for shop use.

Thanks,
Scott W.

Scott when I saw this I thought it would be my savior. No, it is not ready for prime time yet. At least not if you want to  totally rely on the digital display for cutting. When they get the precision to .01 or even .001 and increase the accuracy of the display, then it will be something.

I had to take it back, the display is just totally useless if you need to make precision cuts. They are on the right track, maybe the next generation or two down the line will be the one to get. I would wait on purchasing this model if it's the digital display selling you on it.

Other than that the saw seemed to cut nice and square with a smooth feeling to it. But not good enough to make me exchange it for my Ridgid slider, which isn't the greatest saw to begin with.

Scott,  I don't have 1 but had an older Hitachi.  Nice machine but it came with a blade that was absolute junk.  My next slider was a makita for that reason, the blade was much better and they cost about the same.  So not sure what blade comes on the Hitachi in question but take a close look before you buy.
BTW,  Taunton's Tool Guide 2008 gives the Bosch 4410L highest marks with the Milwaukee 9497-6 the editor's best value choice.

I agree sToolman do your research. But don't believe everything you read. I really didn't love the Bosch. Very nice machine, but I probably would go with a Makita  if the Kapex wasn't coming out. Just an opinion. You know, when you get to that quality all the saws are better than I had when I worked on site in the 80's through 2001. I would say just about any miter saw in the top 5  in current reviews would suit a person just fine. There is give and take , pros and cons to each.

So get a saw and start making sawdust!

Thanks Colin,
I appreciate your insight.
I want a 12" if possible so I can use my Forest blades (I have several).

Thanks Nickao,
I appreciate your response.
I'm not hung up on the digital, although it may be nice to have for these failing eyes. I'm going to keep looking.

Thanks sToolman,

I'll see if I can dig up the article.
