Hi guys.
I had the pleasure of attending the Australian Festool training center this week and while I was there managed to have a closer look and use of the HK 85 with the trenching head fitted. What a rush! I will get hold of one for a week and put it through its paces in more detail very soon.

I've recently got the HK85 ad the groover .. and now it's in storage with my other toys and I haven't had a chance to play with it [embarassed] [sad] [crying]

[member=56306]David Stanton[/member] yeh. I need a few spaces for my aspirations and suburbia just doesn't fit or work!

We've been on Sydney's northern beaches for quite a while and travel time to the city over the last 20 years has gone from 30 mins to 2 hours ... so it's time to switch. Temporary storage for tools and toys is about $1.5K a month [sad] so I'm looking for lots of space for the next life chapter.

I left Sydney for a couple of acres in the Blue mountains back in the 80's. Never looked back.

Very nice.
A stacked dado blade was one of the main reasons I still occasionally lust after a larger table saw. Something like this could easily achieve the same result....

I show the range in the video but only one profile at this stage.

Capacity is listed as being adjustable from 16mm to 25mm. Good enough for 3/4" grooves, might work on 1" plywood, but way to wide for 1/2". A 1/2" ply dedicated blade would really be nice.

....16mm minimum max is 25mm and with the spacers can be adjusted to suit with the shims 0 .5, 1mm, 2mm and 3mm. Max depth 30mm on the rail and 35 off the rail. The HK must be guided wither on the FS rail, FSK rail or by using one of the fences.

That really seems like an oversight to not allow the very common plywood thickness of 12mm to 1/2" when it comes to blade choice capacity. You cut your 18mm or 3/4" plywood case parts, then you want thinner shelves or support pieces made from 12mm or 1/2" plywood to fit in a dado somewhere on that thicker piece, but the saw isn't made for that.  [blink]
For On-site work, I guess they are expecting everyone to router that groove or dado instead of a saw cut like a table saw dado?  [sad]

Looks pretty slick but I'll stick with the OF 2200 and a straight bit for dado's. For lots of heavy dado work though this HK 85 would likely be faster and more stable..

The Mafell trencher  is  15.5  -  25mm.

15.5. is still bigger than 1/2"... but the post saved me looking up the specs.

Now the ubiquitous 16-mm stock makes sense with a 15.5-mm tool.
