I was looking at one of those Lomello lipping planers, and I realized it was $1800.

Can you do the same thing with the HL850?  Flush trim edge banding easily?

I wouldn't use a HL 850 for that, it's made for other things:

From the festool world an OF 1010 or an OFK 500/700 would be the tool to get:

I would certainly agree with Gregor.  If you need to do that and want to get extra versatilities the items he mentioned would be great.  As an addition - in the good category - would be the OF1400 with the same accessories as the OF1010.  Bigger unit, not as easy to control due to that, but many use it if they have the 1400 and don’t want to drop the coin on another router.

The Virutex lipping planer is an excellent tool, and much cheaper than the Lamello.

id love to use the hl850 as the lipping planer as well; but havent gone around to thinking it through... yet

the 1010 router requires quite a bit of care, and the corners are a pain especially if you have like a 1/2"+ edge

i was gonna get the virutex but then i got the project finished with the 1010. it was so annoying that next time i'm either skipping the design of thick edge, or i'll buy a lipping planer (or convert the hl850??)

Wouldn't even attempt to convert the 850, totally the wrong tool for the job.
