My Festool CT Mini dust collector hose came in contact with another of my sanding belt machines and the hose now has a hole in it.  The hole is about the size of a dime.

Any advice on how best to repair it?  The hole is almost in the middle of the hose, so i'd lose a LOT of hose length if I trimmed and reattached the endpiece....i'm hoping I can solve this without doing that.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi,

Hot melt glue was recently suggested for that type of repair.

When I had a similar problem several years ago (pre Festool days) I used self amalgamating tape. This stuff is brilliant as it sticks to itself and forms a complete seal and is stretchy enough to form a close contact with a ribbed hose. It is particularly good for this purpose because it remains flexible, even when cold (hot melt glue and others will not), and when the vacuum is on, will allow itself to be pulled in a bit if there is a slight gap.

Without doubt - self amalgamating tape.

Thanks Peter.  I had to google the product...never heard of it before, but I see where it's carried and I'll be sure to try it.

I used that before I found the self amalgamating tape. I found that it shrank OK but after a while it did not seem to keep snug to the hose. On other applications where I used the rest of the stuff that I bought I found that it also became slightly brittle.

you could cut the hose and put a  hose end  (vac end on both ends and use a joiner. that way the hose can be left shorter if needed

I plunged through my hose a couple of years ago (don't ask), and wrapped it up with electrical tape.  It has held up to this day, the tape seems to really mold to the contours of the hose.

Oh no, you're not getting off the hook that easily!  [poke]
