Hole spacing .THE ANSWER

I get ya [cool] it's all about how the clamp works best in conjunction with the domino to hold the ply. Ensuring that the arm tip of the clamp is at the right angle to fit enough into the verticle domino hole. There is also the clamps jaw size to consider. I have encountered extra thought required when clamping ply in conjunction with the domino on my MFTC. Am I right?

Wow, I must be having a really bad day.  As I perceive things, there are really 2 threads here: 1) the minor thread re the "reason" for 32mm spacing which has been correctly addressed by a number of folks - that being the spatial limitation of the multiple spindle machines used for boring the holes, and 2) the primary thought, what is the relationship between domino holes on 2 opposing sides of a post.  And I for one am totally lost on this second part, even with a PhD in mechanical engineering.  Depending upon the particular reference point on each plane, the center to center distance from the center point of a horizontal slot on one surface to the center point of the vertical slot on the 90 deg opposing surface can literally be whatever you might want it to be.  Exactly what did you do to arrive at a distance of 32mm?

Gb your exactly right

I don't think it really matters what the spacing is .you could make it anything

What I was trying to point out is 32mm is the best spacing for the festool clamps to work I thought was a handy fact to know
And I think it's a coincidence

A funny coincidence, but an easy one to remember  [smile] Thanks! I'll be using that 32 mm system [big grin]
