Need to get some new holesaws as I've lost my bargain basement screwfix set I've had for years. I've been looking at starrett, Bosch, Makita, Irwin, metabo, milwaukee, Lenox, dewalt etc. Also the newer style tct multipurpose ones which are a lot more expensive.

The Bosch quick release ones seem to stand out I know they've been around awhile. A 14pc set is £78

Can anyone recommend what they use cheers

I use the Bosch, mainly because of the availability of ad hoc sizes when required and the way they quick release. No more fighting with a vice and/or spanners.

The others might be just as good.

Think I got my basic set for about £40 and have added sizes as and when I need them.

it depends on what you want them for.
if you use them for drilling where accuracy and finish are very important then get a set of really good ones.
if its just I need a hole but it will be hidden then cheap ones are best.

I rarely  use a hole saw for accurate work. I buy sets in Aldi . I think they are 6 or 7 euro for 6 I think. they are cheap enough to consider disposable. I buy 2 sets a year maybe more. its great having  loads of arbours set up on them.
I do a bit of work for an electrician so im drilling out holes for cables  into wood ,plasterboard, metal tray and trunking, even the odd old flat roof.

I have a set that I built up over time by needing a different size. they are all different brands. I don't notice any difference

That was my thoughts with the Bosch too the availability is better and they look like standard holesaws anyway so I'm sure you could swap the quick fitting to any other brand.

They mainly get used for kitchen unit  back panels , mdf , wood, plywood etc the odd bit of plastic but not much metal.

They've always clogged up with mdf but Im used to that by now. That's the only reason I like the look of the multipurpose ones they fly through but do look a little rough.

To be honest I have been impressed with the cheapo set I bought from screwfix but you know what it's like, I fancy a change

Yeah I did see your comments anyway. Trouble is they are really expensive here and very hard to find a dealer. Cheapest set is £150 +vat

Cheapest set of 11 pieces (Ø19-76 mm) is €166 incl. VAT.
I'm sure they'll also send them to the UK for around 15-20.

I'm not sure about fitting the quick fitting to another brand. Try one out in a screwfix and see what you think, they're pretty sturdy.

I reckon they will, from the pictures on the net they look the same with the central threaded hole and two outer holes for the pins. There's a video on you tube of a guy removing the Bosch fitting

Oh I see what you mean now, I thought you meant fitting the Bosch into another arbour thingy.

I don't think spares will be a problem in these internet days.

I have the same T-Loc systainer SYS 2 filled with around 15 hole saws.
They also fit inside each other when turned upside down.
I made a nice sticker myself to fit the front of the systainer.

We find the bosch better for wood. And use starett for every thing else

Just went through order process to see how much that sys set would be and its £184 Inc vat and delivery to UK ouch! I'm sure it's good but

I use the Bosch bi-metal ones with the quick-change. They also do a range of MultiConstruction ones, and some diamond ones too which all use the same quick-change arbours. I have one of the MultiConstruction bits, and they'll drill chipboard, MDF, stone, tiles, etc. I only have one because they're quite pricey, particularly on the larger sizes.

I can confirm that you can remove the black portion of the holesaw & fit it to any other brand of holesaw.

I'd definitely recommend them. I bought one of the cheaper 9-piece sets (with 6 holesaws) and have added various sizes to it over the years. I now have, at a guess, 18-20 different sizes.

Cheers jonny I did wonder if the Bosch multipurpose cutters fitted on the same arbour as the proggressor ones.

I use bosch for same reasons.  I find they last reasonbly well, and most places sell them so easy to replace.
I just keep 5/6 sizes that fit my needs and replace them when necessary.
I like the quick release and the ease to get material out.
I like the look of the Lenox ones but have never seen a dealer with stock.
