Banggood sells very nicely made Chinese woodworking tools under Hongdui brand. One of them is a an extendable mitre fence with micro adjustment. Unfortunately the mitre bar in Festool CSC SYS is non-standard, and none of the readily available Hongdui mitre guide bars fit Festool.

When I noticed that Hongdui had released a more compact version of their fence suitable for portable saws, I went ahead and ordered one even though I didn't know how it would fit in my Festool table saw. When the fence arrived, I was really pleased with its fit and finish, everything felt really good. As expected, the nut groove in the extrusion didn't align with Festool's mitre guide.

Festool's own fence is attached to the original mitre guide with a plastic adapter that is attached with two screws. I 3D-printed a custom adapter with ABS filament, and now the Hongdui fence works perfectly. Benchdog Tools sells similar adapter, but their aluminum plate adds ~10 / 0.5" extra thickness, and their fence is really barebones compared to Hongdui.

If you're interested in having a look at the Hongdui fence the shorter fence suitable for CSC SYS is HONGDUI HD-MG21-BS.

That miter gauge has such a large footprint on the Festool compact table top.

Even with my SS PCS cabinet saw, at times, I have to pull out my shop-made extension table to fully utilize the JessEm miter gauge for certain cross cuts:

That's where the slider on the SYS 50 really shines, it's every bit as good as I hoped and more! Absolutely brilliant job designing and implementing that so well on such a small but truly great saw!

Nice design. Have you compared it with the Benchdogs extension fence by any chance? Wonder which would be a better option?

No I haven't. But based on online comparison the Hongdui fence looks superior at least from the feature point of view. The build quality is superb. Hooked on Wood has reviewed the fence:

Does the replacement ABS part affect the functionality or accuracy at all? Or does it work exactly as the original piece (with setting specific angles for example)

It doesn't affect the accuracy at all, because its functionality is just to hold the fence and provide an area for the tightening screw to hold on. The detents for those specific angles are in an original sheet metal part that sits under the plastic.

Can the Hongdui still work with the blade guard on?  I'm wondering if I can keep it outside of the unit, and shift the tape; and use the sacrificial to get into/behind the guard?

Sorry, yeah, you had mentioned that in the beginning I think.  I read your original post too quickly.

However, if I may ask, and sorry if my question comes across obtuse. The HD gauge fence is made to fit their gauge, so that once the gauge fitted into the mitre slot for the CSC 50 sys, I don't get how the fence didn't fit the gauge anymore?, as both are made to fit together. And that for that reason you had to 3D print a new connection plate.

Thanks

For those interested, it would appear that this Hongdui mitre gauge is now specifically available for the CSC 50 sys.

At a first glance, the indicated mitre slot size appears to be the one of the CSC 50 sys.

Yes, I sent Hongdui a drawing with Festool miter bar dimensions and asked them to make a special version for me. Fits perfectly.
