i just got a new kapex from the recon site. Whenever i plunge the head of the saw i think it goes to deep into the base. i noticed this because i started cutting into the front of the aluminium base of my NEW saw. i push the head toward the back with saw off and notice that the blade would have cut the rear as well. the depth stop is disengaged.

the second problem is the tall miter stop will not come down anywhere close enough to engage the saw head.

appreciate[/img] any help.

link to video, i couldn't get the attachment function to workhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/drqhhst4kfdrxlk/IMG_0575.MOV?dl=0

There is an adjustment for depth of cut not associated with the depth stop.

Raise it up but not too high. With it fully plunged and pushed back to the fence, the tips of the teeth should not be seen.

I could be totally wrong but the other thing it might be is to do with the special tall cutting position. When you put it in this mode I think it moves a little stop out of the way that the screw people are talking about above actually rests/stops on, moving the stop allows the saw to cut deeper. Maybe the little stop is stuck in the tall cutting position? I only suggest this as you show the tall cutting position lever is also not working properly so maybe one has effected the other?

Like I say could be totally wrong and the screw might just need screwing in a bit.

I'm thinking it has to do with the tall miter setting aswell. My kapex is an early version, and I recently had to pack it up for the recall repair. To pack it up compactly, you have to manipulate the mechanism that is normally activated by the tall miter latch, so the head can be lowered further. Maybe something got stuck there, I can't take any pictures, because my saw is still in Germany at the moment, but if you slide the head forward and look at the back where the latch would go, there's a metal linkage thing.
Also, the lever for the tall miter setting is only supposed to work if the saw is set to zero degrees bevel, maybe it's a bit off.

This thread shows the screw that needs to be adjusted for the depth of cut

For anyone that might be following along. Following the advice from the quote above, I investigated the depth screw, discovering the actual depth stop is broken off. The second issue I had with the tall miter stop is partially my fault. The bevel was not set exactly at 0. This leads me to the third problem the green plastic bevel indicators are missing. Disappointing experience with the recon site, I will be returning the saw because I am inexperienced with the saw and don't know what else I may be overlooking. I will spend the extra money on the new saw.

this was spot on, the stop was totally missing.

I’m fairly certain there’s no returns on Recon items as all sales are final. That said, I suspect this would be covered under warranty.
