I was just waiting to see who brought it up, There are 2 sides to every story & however much i enjoyed the story at times it would have been good to hear the other side.
I know a big problem here is there are less large firms & lots of small 1 & 2 man businesses. I myself am a 1 man band & it can be really hard juggling work when busy. I think if mister Carter had employed a larger firm to take care of all trades then this story would have read a lot differently but perhaps this option was not available to him in this location. I know a lot of people stay away from the large firms to save some money by trying to organise it all themselfs.
You can have a full schedule but when that really good client comes & asked if this wee job could be squeezed in i always try to accommodate them. Usually working nights & weekends to do this but you inevitably run over on time. Its easy for someone on the outside looking in to say, well you shouldn't have taken so much on but when you are self employed you have to look after all your clients. Some you just know that if you tell them it will be 6 weeks before you could look at it then they will go elsewhere. This might be a customer you have been working for for 10 years but if they need it done they need it done ! I think there is always that un certainty that you might run out of work !
